Question about MMR

I am trying to get my head wrapped around the ranking system.

Basically MMR is your rating. you win it goes up lose it goes down and its hidden. Then based off that you are matched with comparable people, and LP +/- is modified by where you are supposed to be.

Are you matched based of MMR or ranking. What if you dodged all your promo series not a loss doesn't affect mmr but keeps you in the lower division. Would this be a way to build MMR vs. weaker opponents, assuming a good win rate otherwise, Then when you stopped you could be rocketed up through the ranks, also assuming good win rate?

Are you matched based of MMR or ranking.

MMR. "Ranking" is just a pretty label and has no effect on actual matchmaking. (For the obvious reasons you outlined.)

Matchmaking is solely based on MMR.

If you dodged all your promo series to stay down in bronze and kept winning, you'd still face higher ranked opponents as your MMR increases. It would culminate with you having a high enough MMR to simply skip your series.

Dodging never makes you lose MMR.
