How does mmr work? having some strange matches

So, i was keeping track of my "elo" through this site and my mmr was at 1379- 60W/60L ( a few days ago) I noticed however that the games did get harder.. but very one sided.. like 2 games ago i had no level 30's on my team.. and a Plat 2 yasuo on the other team. of course level 30. The top laner on my team was brand new to the game and got wrecked. I was messing around with supp panth haha and still managed to kill yas and keep a good kda. But ya we got wrecked ofc. The very next game seem very similar. I was by far the best i smashed my lane but every other lane got wrecked. I even lane swapped and killed the fed nasus ( he went mid for some reason) And its liek i can tell just by watching a player if hes high elo and after game i always check. Im often right. SO, im actually not complaining just kind of curious. I mean is it 100% random and im getting unlucky?? OR am i winning some games vs good players so riot thinks im better then i am and places me with differant players?

MMR (match making rating) is a separate, hidden number that is not effected or affect your visible rank (Bronze, Silver, Gold, etc.). MMR goes up and down according to losses and wins, more so with loss streaks and win streaks. If your MMR is higher than your visible rank, in most cases you will be gaining more LP per win because the system beleives you should be at a higher rank. The opposite is also true, having a lower than average MMR will make you lose more LP than normal per loss because the system believes you should be at a lower rank. Normal MMR is separate from ranked but behaves in the same way, but without relation to your visible rank (since there isn't one) and no "LP changes".

Because normal MMR is separate from ranked MMR, which is also separate from visible rank, there is nothing stopping a Platinum player from being in your normal match if you two happen to have similar MMRs. This is not uncommon, I've had as much as low ranking Challenger players in my normal matches. That Platinum player could be in your game for a number of reasons, like A) He is duoing with a lower MMR player and is being forced matchmade into the game to play with them B) He may never play normals and only ranked, meaning his MMR is still very similar to that of a new player since he very rarely uses the queue, or only uses the queue for fun builds that often result in a loss C) It's just an unlucky matchmaking (the system is no where near perfect, it does make some odd choices although not as often as some people think).

You can't know your MMR. It's hidden. Although some sites, like OP.GG and whatismymmr.com, can give you a pretty good estimate of what it is. I hoped this helped explain some things.

yes it does help thanks a lot of your response. Because i am a very streaky player becasue i binge game. Usually half the day im fresh and in a great mood so i tend to win a lot in a row. Then if I have a few odd games with long 4v5 situations i get pretty turned off.. but keep playing. This is where i Lose a bunch in a row. I just wasnt sure if the reason i was losing was because of my own problems, or because im simply getting matched with better players that carry their team. Its just hard to tell when im tilted because im already not trying as hard as i can
