Afks should affect the Surrender time in normals
What if one team has an afk for more than 5 minutes straight, before 20 minutes....could the surrender time be brought down to 15 mins minimum?
Edit: Any rioters want to pop in :D?

How about every total minute AFKed decreases the minimum surrender time. For example, a teammate AFKs for 5 minutes, the Surrender time decreases to only 15 minutes. For another example, if you have 2 AFKs, on that was AFK for 3 minutes and one that was AFK for 4, the surrender time decreases down to 13 minutes.
The time between surrender votes would remain unaffected, OR the time between Surrender votes decreases by 1 minute per team member AFK at the time of the last vote.
I actually really like this idea, it'd be fantastic if they implemented this. Ive been in a few games with like 2 or 3 AFK's, and it's kinda boring to be the support and have to bottom lane all by your lonesome (;-; ).
simple question, why is this already not how the surrender timer works ?
Or they could just have a safe-to-leave feature, which DotA 2 has had for years.
surrendering is already disgustingly lazy one of my last games last night early this morning we had an afk from start to finish but we still won by focusing towers and having a balanced team. if riot wants to do this in normals im ok with it i just want surrendering to be taken out of ranked. people take the same normals mentality into ranked and surrender when they arnt snowballing cause 'they can always start over another game'
I mean in Summoner's Rift non-ranked games btw Not aram >.<
Make it also for ARAM ;)
...you mean 15 to 10 right? cause it's already 15 on aram
I'm quite sure it's still 20..
Well i don't initiate surrender in my team often.
The change to 15 minutes on ARAM is several patches old now.
Oh Ic. Thanks.
I've almost never asked for surrender earlier than 20 minutes so didn't know.
the change came in with the snowball patch.
aram is already a see what i can get map. to want to surrender there is beyond lazy and cynical
Especially since you can win a 4v5.
Easiest way to do this is to make the enemy team aware it's a 4v5. Then to hype up your own team (not on all chat). The enemy team becomes lazy and careless because "lol 4v5". If at least one of them does - and there's always one who does, if not more - then it's technically a 4v4. You'll end up outleveling the enemy team ultimately. Build defensively and it's easy sailing.
Yeah but most often the enemy team has varus nidalee and sona so your pantheon ragequited.

Riot needs to focus on developing a checking system where it knows who legitimately does not connect at the start and where 4v5s are due to serious connection issues instead of players that willingly leave. At least then we can rule out painful games where teams are screwed by actual DCs.
Any behaviour of a faulty network can be reproduced by a malicious user. Suddenly lost communication? They pulled their network cable. High ping and lots of packet loss? They intercepted the packets and only re-sent some later. Trusting the client to tell you why it can't tell you anything is absurd.
All I'm saying is that it is unfair for people to lose a full thing of LP because a player didn't connect. I'm not implying Riot isn't trying to do anything to improve the situation nor looking for good alternatives. I'm stating that the focus should be on situations where abuse can hardly exist in the first place and people still are on the bad end. For example, if someone never connects and the game is 4v5 since the start, there should be Loss Prevented for the team. I don't see how that can be abused with exception of it being a prolonged way to dodge a game against unfavorable opponents...but nothing would have been lost nor gained.
I agree. That's quite different than detecting "legitimate" failure to connect, which is what you actually said.
That's actually a great suggestion. I see very little potential for abuse.
I've been wanting this for ages!
yes please ;D
Surrender time used to be 30 minutes... it was because of AFKs that this was reduced. Already been done.
Guys you got to take into consideration that a person may be having trouble connecting or runs into an obstacle and cant get back in less than 20 minutes. See if a player were to try to get back and you have already surrendered they would be at a loss and would not find this pleasing. (I know you want to surrender faster but give the person a chance to reconnect why do you think Riot added the leveling up bonus to lower levels) Just take into consideration what the afk might be thinking. That is all I am saying just think about it before you continue this change of such a big rule.( Think about it, its a big rule)
If they take twenty minutes to connect, it was almost certainly a lost game anyway. Even ten minutes is huge because it helps the opposing team snowball easier due to a lack of ganks or 1v2 bot lane.
eh
I disagree, for the sole purpose of pissing you off.
I'd actually really like to see this, at least until they get some other anti-early-game-AFK mechanics implemented. They keep talking about something to let you restart or at least pause a match if someone drops at the loading screen, but no sign of it yet.
This is a great Idea! Bump!

please don't start that
No. What riot need to do is to slowly increase the ambient gold and max level when someone is afk until the team of 4 players stand a reasonnable (47%?) chance of winning.
If we were to get reduced lp loss for having 1 or more afk's on our team that would be great. :\ the game is supposed to be played 5v5 after all.
