When should you leave your lane to help the team and sacrifice your tower?

In a recent game, I was playing against a Fiora at top lane and was pretty even but Fiora would constantly return to lane, push the lane with her Tiamat and I'd push back. The rest of the team was getting into fights in bot jungle and mid but I thought I should focus on farming so I don't fall too far behind the enemy team that was getting fed.

At what point do I let Fiora have the tower and hang out mid/bot-jungle to save my team? There have been games like this in the past where I've left lane to help while the enemy top laner ends up pushing to the 2nd top tower because the team is spread too thin dealing with the other 4 enemies besides top lane.

Only time you leave top and let the outer turr fall is if you are going to secure an important objective, like a good drag, or you are going to get a mid tower, because those are more important than top or bot towers and it makes it much easier to push mid and fight in mid lane later on in the game.

if the enemy laner is staying in lane, stay in lane as much as you can. TP in for a fight to give your team numbers advantage if a fight breaks out, then get back to your lane. try to push your wave as hard as possible before you leave. Objectives are what win games, not just kills.

Never leave lane. Only top lane exists.

IMHO, the only time you should sacrifice your tower is if you can get another objective on the map.

When they're losing team fights and will lose towers without you. Who were you playing? Fiora is great at 1 v 1 fights, but if you were a tank you'd have the advantage in team fights. You could also ask a different team mate to watch top so you could help with the group

It's a hard question.

Don't hesitate too much to leave the T1 if you have something valuable to do elsewhere. But if it's just to spend 5 minutes under the T2 mid, they probably don't really need you.

Losing the T2 is more of a problem, only leave it if there is an emergency. Losing the T3 is almost never worth it.
