When the inevitable Sylas nerfs come...

For the record I have never before played a new champion before their first set of nerfs because I don't get any joy out of OP easy winning. With Sylas I made an exception becuase of the several ways he is unique.

When they nerf him I am really hoping they touch the heals and shield numbers as little as possible and instead hit his total dmg output while making the empowered W heal and damage have more demanding requirements then the %HP of him and his target. The reason I wish for this is because there is more then enough AP burst melees in the game and I don't want to see Sylas become just another one. His shield, heal, and passive make him uniquely adept to be an AP bruiser building some high AP components early and then tanky items later on to make the most of these throughout the game. I am worried about the capability being lost on him.

What they could do for the W: Add level scaling to the empowered heal and dmg so he cant over power melees in lane so easily, taking it down to 10% more at level one and bringing it up to 100% more(10% a level) by level 10 where it would be capped. Then roaming starts becoming more frequent and people have had time to build the grevious wounds passive but sylas can utilize it in the middle of team fights where it would be less of an issue since somone ought to have grevious wounds passive for such and he can be focused easily at the range he fights. A new stipulation should be added to get the empowered heal and damage at all so its not a super easy nigh unavoidable point and click vs every melee that trys to fight him(and nearly all others cause come on... his gap closeing). He should need to get three marks of his passive on a target before he can get the bigger heal and dmg for a short duration after. So he would need to Q,aa,E,aa,E,aa then W for the big heal and dmg. This way one can hypothetically get out of his W range while his E is down and avoid it lest the Sylas can find a way like flashing or if his Q CD is low enough he can slow you to get it. Say after about 2 or 3 seconds the marks dissapear and you can trade or finish your all in. With a coordinated team layering cc or each dodgeing an empowered auto avoiding the empowered W would be way easier.

Just know I adore this champion and would hate to see him become yet another burst AP melee that does tons of dmg really early hits 6 and you are dead, that would be so lame.

I'm hoping they give his ultimate a use it or lose it approach. He shouldn't be able to hold onto an ultimate for 5 minutes - try 10 seconds.

Yes I'm serious.

Honestly that would be a buff for him. I've made the mistake of holding onto ults for too long when I played him and it was miserable. I've had insane success once I stole and instantly used it.

Well, if it helps in using him properly that's fine. I just think he should have to use this ultimate tactically, not sort of have a pick of the menu and sit on them. He should be forced to make good decisions with his ultimate.

I am doubting they nerf him, at least quite yet. He seems pretty short ranged and abusable in lane. Seems kinda bad into a lot of long range mages mid. I am wondering if he's better top or jungle than mid and also wondering if he's better tank than full AP.

But I agree, he's more interesting as a bruiser/tank than a burst assassin mage. I honestly think his kit isn't really made for an assassin... His mobility is kinda nice but nothing insane, he's the kinda guy that would trade 1 for 1 and then die.

I made a Sylas build the day I bought him with the goal of a nice blend of dmg and tankiness like a proper bruiser. The heal and shield demands AP and he is mana hungry, also the sustained dmg require at least his Q cd be around 3 seconds. So high mana, high ap, and max cdr was my goal and then I would fill in the rest with tankiness once these were achieved.

This is the build path: item 1027 item 2003… item 3070 item 1001 … item 3010 … item 3027 … item 3003 … item 3020 … item 3089 …

for a mix of enemy dmg finish in the order of necessity: item 3065 item 3110 For high AP enemy team: item 3065 item 3102 For high AD enemy team: item 3110 item 3083 comet, nullifying orb, transcendence, gathering storm, conditioning, and revitalize. 1-10% cdr, 9 AP, 15-90 hp.

With this build by death cap the first two are stacked brining you up to around 600 AP by then. The high AP does well to make a big heal and shield, even better in combination with revitalize. By spirits visage Gathering storm will likely have you well over 600 ap and W will be leveled up fully producing a max heal of over 1000 hp. The shield in his kit becomes around 700 actually being as big as the shield on seraphs embrace. The tankiness provided in this build by the end makes the heal and shield that much more effective, all to buy you time to get off what has been a pretty damn decent amount of dmg. Sadly your big weaknesses are obviously grievous wounds and percent hp, so Bork... also obviously some decent magic resist will really put a damper on your day, particularly item 3194 that hurts your passive, Q, and E by a lot mitigating 200+ dmg beyond the magic resist it has thanks to its passive per spell rotation.

The problem with item 3027 and item 3070 is they are scaling items that take forever to become decent/strong. Most high ELO Ryze players don't even build item 3027 anymore and go for item 3040 item 3165 instead and sometimes if wanting to be more tanky throwing in item 3110 item 3157

I dunno, I feel like I'll be trying this build on him, personally. item 3025 item 3001 item 3068 item 3165 item 3157 item 3111 Might also try a item 3152 as a replacement item, not sure.

I'm just personally not a fan of RoA, just feels really bad and takes too long to be worth a damn.

His best roles are Top/Jungle, but in jungle he feels the same pain other junglers are feeling right now......he falls behind his team 2 levels even if he's fast clearing the entire map. He has so much clearing agency I often actually get into the enemy jungle to take some of theirs. It takes me about 240 jungle CS to get level 18 right now.... It used to only take about 200.

His first clear is fine. Second clear: You're wondering when you're actually going to get your Level 6..... because it drudges on and your team is already feeding.

He needs a buff, period. There is not logic in buffing him, He is extremely bad. worst champion upon release in the history of the game. look it up yourself (winrates) you can also look up he has the lowest base damage across the board of any champion in the game. In any elo above gold, he isn't even a champion (plat here) I watched a masters player be forced to play him and lost 1v1 to a silver player. Faker himself would lose to most golds using slyas.

He's likely to get buffs before nerfs, and then a slight nerf to balance the difference. The current champion meta has a LOT of Sylas counters in it, so until the meta changes, he's likely to settle out around a 48% champ, who generally scores pretty average. Kind of like a Riven or 48% Lux.

I'll agree his kit has a lot of agency, but the damage output vs amount of damage he takes and the gaps required to use his heal all weigh out to generally making him weak in team situations as a damage dealer.

..... Which is why many Sylas players are abandoning the full AP build in favor of a tank build. He survives far better as tank, but then doesn't get near as much AP scaling, so that is still mostly balanced.

He actually seems pretty reasonable from what I've played of him. While I think his damage is a bit high, he seems very glass cannon ish late game and most fights I had even when crazy fed led to me getting rekt cause I made play errors. His very early game damage is reasonable but after a few kills it does seem to ramp up fast.
