Sorakas E "silences" right...

Urf Mode Is Life··73 votes·4,309 views

So ive noticed throughout many games recently that even though her E is a silencing zone that is suppose to STOP ALL CASTING AND ALL CASTS WITHIN IT, i noticed something really funny... the thing doesnt always even silence...

There are so many champions who are spam casting while inside of it... im sorry but the same way that Cass uses her W to stop even flash from being used is how sorakas E should work with any castable ability... Alistar shouldnt be able to ult out of it, yasuo shouldnt be casting walls while standing in it, rumbles channeling should be stopped while in it... its a silence... have you ever in the history of any game ever actually seen what silences do? why is your coding so messed up... for real though

Of the abilities you mentioned Alistar can cast ult regardless of what he's CC'd with, and Rumble's Q isn't a channeled ability.

Soraka's silence is a tad janky in how it sometimes feels like it has a weird delay at the beginning though I attribute this to the fact that even though some abilities have a tiny delay, they can't actually be canceled and it's really easy to fire off your silence while they're in the middle of one of their abilities. I haven't actually seen anyone continue to cast spells inside of the silence unless it's intended behavior like Alistar/Tryndamere's ult.

Fairly sure I've seen someone jump into the silence field once it's down and then cast spells quickly before being silenced e.g. Kat being able to get off an EW combo on someone inside the field.)

I think it happens because it doesn't check who's actually inside the field very often - there's a delay before people get silenced.

(Note that I haven't played Soraka in a while, so it's possible this has since been fixed.)

Its just examples... but speaking of alistar after he ults ( i know it "removes" CC) but hes STANDING IN THE SILENCE ZONE aka he shouldnt be able to cast any of his 3 other abilities because his ult doesnt PREVENT CC like olafs, it just removes it.... but if the whole zone is an "anti cast" zone, then he shouldnt be using his other abilities regardless of ulting or not

Examples that don't support your point, because silence doesn't prevent Alistar from ulting, or Rumble's Q from continuing to remain active if it's already in effect.

youre right it doesnt prevent him from ulting... but after he ults he can cast inside the SILENCE ZONE... its not a single cast silence like for example cho gaths or old sorakas... the whole AREA is a silence zone

dapositiveviking5 votes

it's because of tickrate, since it constantly updates to re-check for new people rather than be a duration cc like cho's

Ratbert16 votes

Yeah except it has the shittiest tick rate. We already know they can make it instant with cass e grounding, so why not soraka e?

Ozag the Mighty1 votes

I think it silences on hit, after that it's a root if they stay in it.

I have noticed an issue where popping item 3157 gives you a little window to still cast spells if you queue up your abilities right. This has led to times where Ahri's, Tristana or other champions with some form of dash/gap closer have been able to use the ability while sitting dead center in the silence zone

Garen and Wukong also can't be stopped during their spins, similar to rumble.

RavenMagus15 votes

The problem with it, as far as I know, is that it has a really low refresh rate on how it applies the silence - i.e., every half-second or so the game checks to see who's inside the circle and silences them if appropriate.

It needs a much quicker tick rate for silence checks.

I've seen Fizz Troll Pole out of it.

WTF

I havent seen that happen yet but id probably punch through my laptop screen lol

The thing is that you see a mark on the ground before the spell (and the silence) actually hit. The Troll pole lifts him off the ground, making this ground AoE spell not affect him.

If you can pull it off at the right time it's possible, but I don't think it's messed up. Saying this with level 6 Soraka.

That's not true. If you ever try silencing for example the landing place of an ulting Pantheon you'll notice that after he lands he usually has 0.2 or so of a second where he can use his other abilities.

Warlord Zudane1 votes

Yea, it's the time between ticks. I'm saying that in the circumstance that Fizz was in the location when it did the check on who to apply the silence to and was on the troll pole at that time then it wouldn't hit him.

I'm not giving any and all circumstances, I'm simply stating how the troll pole could make it miss.

That is absolute nonsense.

There is no Z axis in this game.

The Deckowner5 votes

BTW Lucian ult is completely unaffected by Soraka's silence, known bug for centuries yet Rito spaghetti code.

Warlord Zudane3 votes

Taken from the Wiki... I don't think it's a bug.

While using The Culling, Lucian cannot use basic attacks or damaging abilities, and can only be interrupted by crowd control that inhibits his ability to use basic attacks, but is ghosted, can move freely, and can activate Relentless Pursuit.

And

Lucian does not channel during The Culling (he will keep firing while silenced and/or blinded)

Looks like the ability is treated as repeated basic attacks that auto-fire. If silenced before he uses it I think it will stop the ult, but if silenced once it starts it wouldn't do anything because silence doesn't stop basic attacks.

The Deckowner1 votes

So lucian's ult is specifically coded to be immune to silence? wow, I am speechless.

Seems like at least once a game when I play as annie and have stacks for the stun set, tibbers won't stun when i cast and it uses up my charges acting like it should have.

Axe2Handle1 votes

They changed it where tibbers himself has to hit the target and not the AOE around tibbers.

RavenMagus5 votes

That's actually completely untrue. It's still the Tibbers cast itself that stuns.

They changed the targeting paradigm on it and her W in the mage update so they're both much less reliable if you try to hit an enemy champion while they're moving. There's a brief delay to both casts and a champion that leaves during the cast doesn't get hit. (For comparison, Cho'gath's stupid silence cone still works the way Annie's abilities used to.)

I'm an Annie main so I've played a lot of games on her. I've definitely missed ults on champions that seemed like they should be inside it - and would have been prior to the mage update - but it has never failed to stun an enemy that it hits on cast.

This is what im talking about... some things just shouldnt be able to be used while in the zone... Alistars ult may be the 1 and ONLY exception to the rule... and even then he shouldnt be able to cast his Q W or E until he is OUT of the silence zone

zelham1 votes

i think tryndameres ult should be an exception too, as it doesnt make him invulnerable, like kayles and kindreds ults. it only makes it so he cant go below 30/50/70 health.

PhDs Nuts4 votes

Rumble should be completely unaffected by all silences. He's controlling a machine =P. If Soraka's E was "Break Their F*cking Thumbs!" then maybe....

On a related note, mobster champion with ability descriptions like ^ please

The Deckowner1 votes

Sona is literally muted yet still able to be silenced, Rito logics.

invisiblecat13 votes

The hitbox for this is honestly the problem. IF and only IF you stand in the center, you are silenced. If you are on the edge of the zone you are fine pretty stupid

Fauxfire2 votes

I think you're confused about the difference between continuous abilities with no channel time and other that break out of CC like Alistar ultimate...

MyLittleWindmill2 votes

I agree, i've noticed this as well. I think the full circle should silence every ability within it just like every other silence in the game.

Death by Glamour2 votes

Kat can still use her dash

Champion Skin2 votes

Alistar shouldnt be able to ult out of it

Yes he should... as Alistar ult removes CC on cast

rumbles channeling should be stopped while in it

Rumble doesn't have any channeled abilities?

A little Peepo1 votes

Cows ult breaks all CC so it's working as intended Rumbles Q isn't channeled and it functions like garen spin, Mundo fire thing, cc will not affect it. Channel abilities are essentially "casting abilities" like karthus ult and fiddles ult so these abilities will cancel but Rumbles Q is nothing like those abilities. Yasuo ult, I'm not entirely sure if he's able to cast his ult even when under silence or if it's a bug. It's safe to say her E has a delay or is just straight up fucked from all the nerfs soraka has been receiving, they probably messed up with the spaghetti coding.

INoble KnightI2 votes

Raka silence isn't CC. The root at the end of the silence is CC.

1374346 votes

Silence is CC. It is just not hard CC.

Alistar is able to ult when under any CC (including silence) because his ult purposely breaks CC. Ditto Tryn's ult. In Soraka's silence field they will just get silenced again after their ult the next time the silence refreshes through. Which is the root of Soraka's E bugs- the silence is refreshing every 0.5 or so seconds, so you have a small window to still use spells in the field before the silence is applied to you went you first enter the field/cleanse the silence.

INoble KnightI1 votes

Okay when put that way I can see you're right. Learn something new everyday lol

zelham1 votes

Just to make sure everything is clear, Tryndamere's ult doesn't remove cc, but it can be used when he is cc'ed.

Silence is considered heavy CC (if I recall correctly) CC doesn't nessesarely mean movement impair.

INoble KnightI1 votes

Yeah I admitted to being wrong on that one. Thanks for caring enough to comment though :D

Drackolus1 votes

Equinox refreshes every .25 seconds. If someone steps in or their zhonya's/bard ult ends (which prevent the silence), it's possible to cast a spell as long as it's within the refresh timer. I.E., if you've got .15 seconds from the end of your zhonya's to the next refresh time, you can flash out of it in those .15 seconds. It's been like this for two years as of Sunday. I've complained about it for a long time but I've yet to get a response.

GerAvos1 votes

While in her E you can still cast spells? lol

The Ecdysiast1 votes

Wait wait.

Alistar's ultimate is a complete Cleanse. Can't use as an example here.

TotalJerk1 votes

Two problems with her silence. It doesn't interrupt most spells that were buffered before the silence dropped, and it tends to not work at all for the first tick.

zelham1 votes

tryndamer's ult is the only ability i know of that can be used while silenced lol.

blkKalameet1 votes

it's a problem with how her ability works. every so many ticks it checks for targets and silences them. if you spam abilities you can get one off in between the ticks.

The Deckowner1 votes

Tryndamere's Ult can be used when he is under any form of cc, it has nothing to do with the tick.

blkKalameet1 votes

i know this, i'm speaking about how other abilities are able to be used while in her silence radius.

Cavemantero1 votes

I agree...her E sucks. Its so 'fun' to watch as people just walk out of the thing with no repercussions for your well placed and risky maneuver.
