Why do people say Caitlin's midgame is shitty?

I'm not seeing it. With only two items - IE and PD (Shiv if you're one of those penny pinching types) she completely decimates in team fights. Sure, she may not have huge AoE burst like Graves, or long range, spammable poke like Corki, but with only two items her single target DPS from 650 auto attack range is insane. Plus, she has good utility + mobility, waveclear, and poke. Even with just an IE or BF + Pickaxe, her Q and R are very strong poke tools.

Caitlyn's problem is that she doesn't offer much in the midgame. Ordinarily her big advantage is her incredible safety and ability to always be putting out damage. In lane, that makes her a great bully. In the lategame, that lets her put out lategame ADC damage safer than pretty much anyone else. In the midgame, it doesn't give her much. Her autoattack dps is less than almost all other carries because her steroid is mediocre, so always being safe to apply that dps doesn't mean nearly as much. It's the point in the game when she has the least ability to affect fights. If she's not ahead there, she often ends up doing very little until she hits 3-4 items.

She is just shitty in general. She has no AS or AD steroids (her passive is trash she pops it at most twice per fight). Just like Ashe, the only thing that makes her remotely an ADC is her AA range and her naturally high AS.

It's not that it's shitty, it's that her only thing over the other carries is range. I definitely don't think her midgame is bad at all, she just doesn't have a steroid to abuse during it. It's mainly on you positioning well during long fights rather than pumping out quick damage during a steroid like several carries do.
