I see that we can still rank ? I thought it was over til January or so.

You can rank for mmr but it ultimately gets reset at the start of the ranked season in december/january
It's preseason, basically you can still get your rank up but it won't affect any of the rewards you get for this year. What it will affect however, are your placements for next season. So say you ended the season in Gold but then climb up to Plat. You only get the rewards for gold but when you play your placement matches, there's a high chance of just ending up in gold without having to climb at all.
