Why is Vlad able to stack his E without hitting targets?

If you beat a vlad or what ever and he comes to lane with max stacks or some how misses you, he still has 4 stacks on his E.

Vlad can be beaten and even though I lost a game with him on it recently. It got me thinking why can his E stack without hitting targets?

On another note during my solo Q game. My bot lane, mid lane and jungler were fighting laners at bot lane, over extended, tower diving, vlad tps bot lane and gets a quadra 8 mins in @_@ ( I was top lane). Solo Q has its wtf moments for sure.

Because it is still being cast?

The skill still damages him when he doesnt hit anything, so why shouldnt it stack?

Right now Vlad's E is super boring; you just have to press the button once every 10 seconds to keep your stack's up. There's no meaningful decision, since by the time you max Q and get revolver, the HP lost from E is totally irrelevant.

The point of requiring you to hit something to get E stacks would be the same as the point of requiring Hecarim's Q to hit something to get the CDR bonus. It gives the champion ramp up time in a fight. Vlad's power would ramp up over the course of a long fight instead of just being there all the time. Of course just making this change without any compensation would be a nerf.

This would make him weaker against burst champions that want to kill him fast, and better (by comparison, he'd actually still be slightly weaker) against tanks and sustained damage champs. I don't know if that's desirable or not, but that's what it would do.

This might not be the best way to rework his E, but they should do something to it to make it more interesting. Right now it gives you and your opponent pretty much zero meaningful decisions.

It is effectively an aoe, not a targeted ability.

All Im saying if you cast it and you didn't hit anything somehow cause just being bad, why should it stack? I know you lose hp, but its just my opinion but I feel he should get penalized for missing an easy ability.

So with your logic, since he gets a negative effect (like hurting himself) and gets no reward for missing. instead Zed shoudl automatically injure himself for missing his shadow slash, since it is so easy to hit. or katarina should lose 30% move speed (she gains move speed hitting an enemy) cause it is "so easy to hit" The only reason he loses life is due to it costing health 2 cast unlike zed (energy) kat (resource-less) but it doesn't say "stacking upon hitting an enemy" it says upon cast so i don't see why you think it shouldn't

Zed spends Energy if he misses he just misses and loses energy and recovers it in time. Zeds powers doesn't stack up from spamming and do more damage or get better regen. You didn't exactly give a good example imo.

Im not sure what champions are out there if they miss an ability or hit with one and it stacks regardless getting stronger that I can think of like Vlad. Unlike Zed, Vlad he uses health cost and has built in spell vamp so...um what do you mean?

As for the Kat example Im not following you. Im saying if you miss why should you get reward or benefit from it?

it is strategy to stack in b4 u get to lane, so you can have a maxed stacked one when you fight? that is why.

he still expends the health cost, so he gets the reward. If they made it not stack if there aren't enemies in range, they'd have to make it not castable outside of range of enemies as well to compensate.
