"Know your role!" The Rock was right!!
Granted, I'm venting here. But I'm sure there are others out there that can relate to what I'm about to type out.
We all know the roles in the game. Tank, support, DPS. Tanks are there to take damage that would outright kill a lesser character. DPS, damage per second, is there to do damage. And your support is supposed to do just that, support the other characters.
Now, there are variations of these roles. But no one expects a character that is designed to heal to top the DPS charts. And anyone using a healer to tank is going to get heavily flamed. Still, people keep doing silly stuff like that and thank they are super smart when they do. But sometimes, people with specific characters with specific builds can really take the cake.
Take for example one of my games this morning with a team mate that chose Soraka. Soraka is a pretty powerful healing character. So, imagine the /facepalm when the player who chose Soraka says "I don't want to heal you. I'll lose all my health." After the game was over, I checked Soraka's item build. They did not buy any items to increase health regeneration. A little critical strike here, some armor there. Mana and health regen? Nope. But can I help them with this? Nope again. I did try though. After the oh-so-inspiring message above, I said, and I'm quoting myself here, "But you chose a healing character. That's what you do as a healer." (And before anyone says anything, I bought Soraka because she heals. Mine is level four and about to get level five mastery.) But what was my reward for that? Someone reported me for a negative attitude. I said nothing more to the person let alone in the game itself for that matter.
(As an aside, I'm not sure which is worse, the toxic community or the abuse of the system implemented to put a stop to it. The current report system gives everyone an Emperor of Rome attitude even if you WANTED to help them. Servant: "My liege, we have found a new way to cure the plague. May we show you our research?" Emperor: "How dare you suggest such help! Boil him immediately!")
Got a Lux that won't shield you? /facepalm Did that Lulu not polymorph the Darius chasing you which could have allowed you to escape and instead watched you die while casting Pix on a minion? /facepalm No heals from Nami because she was too busy DPSing? /facepalm
Bottom line: if you choose a support character, there is a certain expectation that you SUPPORT your team. If you do not understand that concept, you really should not be playing a support character.
"That's what the Rock is cooking." (you knew it was coming.)
supports out there.
