Gangplank item tips needed

This is the guide I used to get a grasp (pun intended) on GP's build. Some of his items he lists I don't get why they synergize with him, or if they're actually worthwhile.

My build with him goes as follows: item 3078 item 3031 item 3046 item 3036 item 3156 item 3158 a hybrid armor pen/critplank build that just goes maximum carnage on damage - running 45% cdr and thunderlords with AD reds, AD and CDR quints, and Armor yellows. I don't run bounty hunter or assassin because I'm not THAT confident and I'd rather have my damage maximize during team fights with slows.

However, I tried item 3072 as a tech item once because the enemy comp was majorly AD, but didn't see much point unless I stacked it with CS. I know that item 3156 is a "tech item" too but I think it should be standard on any plank build because of the armor pen and MR you get, only late game though. Unless you have an AP top laner and need to go item 3155 during lane phase.

I dunno, everything you do here seems fine to me. I personally build Shiv over PD, but it's really a personal preference, either is fine. I'm not really a huge fan of Maw. Hexdrinker is ok in lane if you're really struggling and they have an AP top and an AP jung, but normally you need to get TF and IE asap, so Maw is coming in as a 4th or 5th item at which point the pen and MR isn't really that great. I prefer to go GA myself, having the opportunity to not die late game is way more valuable than the shield, plus you get the MR from GA anyway. You lose a bit of damage, but the safety is worth it in my opinion.

As far as runes go I run flat AD reds/Quints, CDR blues, and Scaling health yellows. I'd definitely opt for the health over the armor as it's way better for your late game. But if you want the extra lane safety of armor yellows that's fine I guess. Some people like to run mana regen in the runes, but I'm not sold on that.

I'd say running oppressor over bounty hunter is a personal preference, I personally do bounty hunter just because its easy to snipe kills with the ult, but oppressor is fine too. Assassin isn't great imo, so I agree there, I run secret stash since I go the corrupting pot start, but I know some people like the Dorans ring start.

also in that video he didn't really go into summoner spells. There is kind of a tug of war between teleport and exhaust right now. I tend to lean in favor of exhaust these days since the nerfs to teleport. GP's laning can be pretty tough with what's out there. Definitely take it into things like Jax, Irelia, Renekton. If you're against something like Nasus, Malphite, or maokai, teleport is probably better. Btu definitely don't just take teleport for the hell of it, exhaust is a life-saver

This was in patch 6.11 I use teleport over exhaust for two reasons: TP to x objective TP to lane Until I'm confident with barrel placement exhaust seems like only a comfortable GP can run, but even then, exhaust against a fizz or yasuo top is just a big waste if they dash out, and I think Olaf ult cancels it if I'm not mistaken
