Urgot R and Aram backtrack interaction

Recently on another account i was playing as urgot versus and aatrox with backtrack in aram. He would pop backtrack, and i would ult him, and pull him towards me. However, apparently the dash from backtrack completely overrides my r, just pulls him away and breaks my chains scot free. I'm wondering if this is an actual intended mechanic or bug?
