Champion Shards

Look, I love the hextech crafting system, and I think it's a great way to get content available to more people. It just seems odd that one of the more common rewards in a hextech chest is something that you can turn into a champion you already own. I can't use them for much; they're only good for rerolls or blue essence. If I owned all the champions, they wouldn't be good for anything at all. It's just a big anticlimax when you open a chest to see something you've owned for years, and it seems like an odd thing to put into a rewards system. Are there plans to give more uses for champion shards, or at least give out ones that players don't already have?
