The thing that scares me about the new runes

Is the same what happened with newly introduced items like item 3146. Champs like Akali were so broken with those items that Riot nerfed the champ instead of the item, which made it mandatory for them to buy. Same thing could happen with e.g. the Ultimore rune where Riot gives Karthus a 250 CD ult so he is forced to take this rune everytime.

Karthus after casting his ult 10 times, where ultimore caps out, with 40% CDR, has an ult CD of 80/72/64 seconds Whereas Lux, Right now, With 0% CDR, without triggering her ult CD refund, has an ult CD of 80/65/50 seconds

and ur worried about Karthus

Karthus ult is a lot better then Lux's.

HAHAHA. Nice one.

When taking CD in consideration, I'd say it's an arguable statement at best.

In a vacuum yes. There are times and teamcomps where Lux's ult is better though.

Skorch2 votes

While true, but isnt taking this rune into consideration part of that Vacuum already?

my god. Thats horrifying

You have to cast the ult 10 times to get the most out of the rune. It's gonna take like 20-30 minutes to cast his ult that many times as Karthus, provided you ult the instant it's off cooldown. The rune is better on champions who can already ult often, like Lux. It's hard to say how good it actually is without seeing what you're giving up for the CDR.

Ultimore will be...well...probably less useful on Karthus than any other possible runes. He has a very long CD on it. Ultimore will be best on those with medium to medium-long CDs, so that it's impactful, but actually stackable within a reasonable amount of time.

It'll only become great on Karthus in long games. Trust me on that one.

i don't think so.

Karthus Ult can apply pressure across the whole Map. being able to not only cast the Ult every 200, but every 110 seconds, will let him put so much more pressure out.

How often do you need to consider if ulting is really worth it because of the long Cooldown? Also, with this Rune, Karthus can go a complete CDR-less Build and will end up with a 60-70 sec CD Nuke.

It will at least end up as a viable choice, especially because his Ult CD is so high.

Read the description of the rune

the stacking isn't what will make the Rune strong.

even if you don't stack it that fast you will still save a lot of CD.

Silmaril1 votes

I think it'll still be pretty strong. It's true that it'll be harder to stack, but Karthus doesn't normally buy CDR items except Zhonya's anyways.

What I think will make Ultimore strong on him is the 'automatic max CDR' portion of the rune. It'll take him forever to stack it, but having 40% cdr right off the bat (chopping over a minute off of his rank 1 ult CD), on a champ who will never come close to the CDR cap otherwise is still going to be pretty strong.

I don't think he's going to be the worst abuser of it, but there's a pretty good chance that it's going to be one of the better runes for him.

Ultimore doesn't give you 40% cdr off your ult for free, it just increases your max cdr cap so your ult can get to that 60% cdr ult reduction. It really only gives the extra 20% through the stacking (which will take a long time for a champion who doesn't build cdr and who has a long cd on the ult).

It's why everyone is saying low ult, cdr building champions will like this rune the most.

You'll still need to build CDR normally for this rune to work at it's maximum, so it'll take mid to late game to reach 40% cdr and why it was grouped with the other late-game rune.

Well, it says right there in the reveal at https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/developer-corner/3THTrhmb-runes-corner-late-game-focused-runes

Gain 5% cooldown reduction and maximum cooldown reduction on your ultimate. This increases by 1.5% each time you cast your ultimate. Stacks up to 10 times.

If that's changed then yeah, it definitely won't be that good for Karthus.

EDIT: Nevermind, I read that catastrophically wrong. It's definitely not going to be a gamechanger for Karth.

It doesn't give you an automatic 40% CDR, it increases the CDR cap. It's literately a scaling Intelligence for ultimates.

I have absolutely zero doubt that they (Riot) will say how much testing they put into these new runes, and balancing and so on, and there will with NO DOUBT be a handful of just ridiculously broken champs on release of the runes. Just as much as I have no doubt it will take half a calendar year to fix the problem runes and champs, and said fixes will remove some runes, and replace them with runes that will do the same with other champs and so on.

It's sadly nothing new, and they've shown absolutely no ability to balance and create outside of a vacuum.

This is exactly what will happen. It does every time and Riot haven't learned a thing yet

Remember first warlord with Yasuo and Tryndamere ? How about thunderlord Zed ,Rengar and Ekko ? Reworked masteries was a complete flop when released, now only worse can happen with the runes...

Eh it's probally still not that great, The game ends at like 20 mins so good luck ever seeing a lategame because chances are it's not gonna happen, unless there's a good reason to not ff, better team comp, 2 true hyper carrys, 2 sups with healing and ccing for hypercarry, etc. It's gonna be the cc healing utility champs with cdr in their kit that are gonna screw you,
