What's the reasoning behind the new 175-200 AA range for melee champions

Most melee champs have 125 AA range whether the model is small like Akali or big like Alistar, however: Tahm 200, as well as the expected reworks: Garen 125>175, Darius 125>175 and Morde 125>200. Why are new melees getting such a higher AA range? I don't think it's fair to other melee champions that have also been stuck with 125 AA range for years like these guys.

Historically we've almost always used 125 range for melee champs, with a few exceptions. When working on the juggernaut changes however we came to feel that range of of melee attacks was a lever it would be appropriate to vary more. Slightly increased attack range on immobile melee characters allows us to give them a little bit of extra target access without having to give them additional mobility or CC tools. Highly mobile champions by contrast we feel should often have to take the risk of getting right up to their targets to AA as part of the price they pay for that mobility.

I don't get why everyone is being so unproductive in their responses here. This is quite a big change for these champions and it's one I'd like context on it for sure. 175 range versus 125 range is quite a big deal in terms of melee vs melee matchups, which is why I thought ranges were so standardised in the first place.

Balance? Is this a big deal besides being slight buffs to these champions?

Cuz they want to diversify the attack ranges of even melee champions? Not to mention this changes has alot of tradeoffs baked into them.

i like that you said not fair to other melees and didnt mention ranged characters they are usually the ones to bitch about this kind of stuff despite being sure safe with range. i love melee characters and always though how short jax's range is stupid i cant place exactly what made jax weak and cant survive shit especially early game so it doesnt matter if he has god like damage cause he is never gonna use it until he had been feeding early game or has to completely ignore team fights to he can farm to get some damage and defense before he can get in a real fight at all he is the melee adc with the bad early game and bad mid game now, but he has a pole- pole arm- pike weapon (he has a lantern and Imagine if he had a real weapon) but has be be so close if he whips out his lower staff it will be right on you i dont disapprove of the more range for these characters but some other character need to be

I dont disapprove of the more range for these characters but some other character need to be. last i checked lanterns towered over men so they could light a larger area
