Why did Riot remove builds?

I honestly don't understand it. I would often use builds to leave a reminder of just what items were good on a champion, what strange pick of items I might prefer, items that are situationally good that I might not think of that I almost never get, (things like item 3009 item 3748 instead of item 3074), or other items that might be forgotten. Plus it let me buy my items in a set order and think more about the gameplay and think about if I need to deviate from the build or not instead of thinking constantly of what I need vs if I need to change it....I don't know if that makes sense or not but it really helped me out....

So why were builds removed from the new client?

They weren't removed, they just haven't been implemented. Same as many other features. The client is in beta and being finished still.

To bring you as up to date as I can:

  1. Riot announced that they will not be developing support for custom item sets for the new client because there were very few people who used the feature.
  2. There were many highly upvoted threads protesting this. e.g.
  3. Cactopus later announced that they were having internal discussions over whether or not to support item sets. Whatever the decision, items sets will not be in the beta client. Other features are already scheduled and they will not re-prioritize them over other features even if they decide to support them.
