Why does Duskblade get so much shit?

iamlimeyman··79 votes·16,120 views

Deletes wards, deletes traps, AD, Cooldown reduction, Lethality, disables wards, gives you a 99% slow, allows you to proc it multiple times if you become unseen, and gives you the ability to one shot someone if you havn't been seen for one second?

Doesn't this seem a little to dramatic?

It's an item that should be straight up deleted. Deathfire Grasp got deleted because it was problematic, so why shouldn't Duskblade be?

It's actually in the new game mode.

Or at least, was.

It still is as far as I'm aware.

Yup. I checked it just now. Still there.

I didn't know if they hotfixed it.

Uh, because Duskblade isn't giving everyone a +20% increase to all damage along with a percent health damage spell along with? Duskblade is nowhere close to the level of damage the DFG gave.

Flawless Fetus4 votes

Lol. You should have seen the "real" dfg...

4th3t0s1 votes

Least back then it was niche enough that usually only Veigar built it consistently.

LTK KoRo2 votes

Okay. Let's just remember why Duskblade is in current form. Because assassins didn't had enough reliable damage to kill anyone. Want to remove duskblade? Let's add the damage back to assassins kits. What would you think about maybe, 5% bonus AD for every rank in Zeds shadow? And maybe we'll restore the AA reset on Talon Q? Also, we could change Kha'Zix leap back to 80% AD scaling. And we should remove range scaling on Fizz R, and make it good again

Current duskblade is a crutch for AD assassins. If you want it gone, you need to give them a lot back.

lil koda1 votes

this shit makes 0 sense because assasins do TOO much damage, duskblade is not needed for them to kill people, it just takes the skill out of them killing people

LTK KoRo1 votes

It is totally needed for people to deal damage. Try to play as lets say, level 13 Zed and try to kill somebody. You'll just tickle him. Current duskblade is a bad design, but it's needed due to removal of lots of assassins damage during assassin update

Draconian56512 votes

You forget the ability to activate it multiple times if you duck into an unwarded bush or go invisible (certain jungle bug)

iamlimeyman9 votes

Edited.

Draconian5657 votes

That multiple duskblade proc really needs to be addressed with a 40s cd with each proc.

Fondling Gems13 votes

Honestly a 20-30 second CD seems more reasonable; it should be up for every fight, however it shouldn't be so much easier to abuse on certain champions.

Either that or make it require you to be out of combat for a couple seconds, which would allow multiple procs in one fight, but only if you are ducking out of the fight for a period of time.

RaiNinja2 votes

A CD doesnt make sense. The only melee champions capable of abusing it are Kha'zix (twice from his ult) and Akali if you're going that way, but you have to be invisible for 1 second. Even then, giving it a CD is stupid because now ever other champ that uses it has to suffer. Not to mention the amount of times riot has nerfed the damage on it.

Z3Sleeper6 votes

All forms of proccing it multiple times in quick succession, no matter the circumstances, should suffer.

A 3s CD may be all that's needed but even then would make a dramatic impact on the item that mainly just nerfs the main abuser(s).

And then whoever falls short after this reasonable nerf gets some love tap buffs, problem solved and Duskblade is no longer a wonky item.

RaiNinja2 votes

Cuz its just that easy huh? Riot just finished nerfing assassins, runes and all, and now you expect them to give (us assassins) buffs to compensate. They might as well revert the old nerfs and buffs if it were that easy.

Additionally, the damage it deals has been nerfed time and time again, its like people dont even read the patch notes. Also I dont know why this is even here. Do people ever go over to see what percentage of damage duskblade by itself deals out of an assassin's entire combo or do they just come here randomly to complain about a perfectly fine item?

Legitimately the item does 30-200 damage scaling with level (just 20 more than thunderlords and we all know thunderlords wasnt one shotting people) and people complain it one-shots? I will agree that thunderlords is on a CD (25-15 seconds), thats because its free and easy to proc for ANY champion. This is a 2900 ad item with lethality, cdr and ward destruction. This cuts the amount of champions that can use this item by well over half. As for the passive, that cuts another nice chunk of champs out of the pool. See where I'm going with this?

Honestly no, I have no clue what you're talking about. What cuts it?

kile1471 votes

You have to be able to scale with AD and Lethality to use it. Whereas Thunderlords was ok on 90% of the roster.

Z3Sleeper1 votes

The problem is the Lethality users who can use it who are using it in tandem with Electrocute. Sure it only does TLD damage, but now instead of one TLD they're essentially proccing 2 TLD's and are able to proc more "TLD's" by refreshing the passive.

kile1471 votes

It's worth noting that Duskblade's damage is roughly equivalent to Trinity's Spellblade proc, on roughly the same cooldown, with a much harder proc condition. I felt the same way you do now when it was released because the damage increase was pretty crazy, but since they have toned it down it's much more in line with other, similar items (item 3285 item 3057). Stacking Dusk, ignite, Electrocute, and Stormrazer did give a lot of instant burst all together, but that is mostly an issue with their ability to stack, and not the individual things themselves.

Reduce electrocute burst, make dusk/storm unique and not stackable, reduce ignite damage, and suddenly the whole combo loses like 50% of its damage. I'm not going to say that burst meta or TTK is fixed, but they had the right idea with the changes.

It has same cooldown as trinity force. Only difference is one rely on invisibility and the other one rely on proc after ability use.

RaiNinja1 votes

Finally someone with sense. Also dont forget the amount of dmg trinity force does compared to duskblade >_>

Rivini11 votes

It's an AD item. AD itemization is godly compared to AP. Aside from a select few, Riot's golden children are, coincidentally, AD.

That's why.

I get that assassin's wanna avoid being seen, its important for their assassination but, I think it should change

instead of disabling wards, what if it just detected them?

give it a big detection radius (bigger than ward vision) but use a pointer to tell the champion which direction the ward is

kinda like how soraka's passive, knights's vow and zeke's convergence all have pointers

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6hfitMaH-DQ/VA-B18hTXEI/AAAAAAAAYBU/I9sQDD_Sevc/s1600/soraka.jpg

not sure if it should mark the ward's location but it should be completely passive

this way assassin's get to avoid being seen but not in a way that removes vision entirely

Evelynn evelynn for eg knows only pink control wards reveal her, so maybe she'll investigate in case its one of those

Talon Kayn talon and kayn however can use the information to find an alternative route for a gank

Somebody Love Me5 votes

I actually like that idea.

Though I'd also prefer the item either have a raised cost or be removed. Because not even the 3250 gold iteration of duskblade was this good....except that one time it was just overpowered.

RaiNinja2 votes

Actually no. Disabling wards/traps for 2 seconds with a 90 second cooldown is just fine. Only 2 champions in this game can perfectly avoid a warded area (without huge costs like using your ult with Galio or Shen but they dont even build the item) when ganking and now you want to make everyone else suffer? Where does that make sense? Dont forget that these detect traps. So think of how hard it would be to play teemo or jhin or some other champ that somewhat rely on the element of suprise that traps give but now they are able to know where your traps are and drop a oracle or pink in the general area and remove them.

how would this make everyone else suffer? the blackout risks gives information to the enemy team because you destroyed their vision, if you could detect their wards and take a different path, you'd actually be far better off

as for traps... it would probably have to be unable to detect them tbh

Netorare7 votes

Both Duskblade and Stormrazor are badly designed and should be removed. Assassins didn't need lethality to do dmg.

We are just gonna pretend like assassins didnt build armor penetration before lethality was added. Makes sense to me.

Duskblade doesn’t give MS. Ghost blade does. The slow is for a very short time, and ranged users of duskblade can’ proc the slow.

As a Wukong and Talon user, I can attest that the slow is great enough to give you a free AA on an enemy you normally wouldn't be able to AA after the proc. A 99% slow is a different way to say, "You're rooted for a split second, but you're free to use a mobility ability to break it if you have one."

Attack delay and movement interruption stops you from sticking and damaging a champ at the same time. Which is why damned near every champ without a ms buff or some form of cc builds item 3044 item 3046 item 3153 item 3142 item 3022 item 3143 item 3800 item 3146 item 3116

League of Assassins

It looks like RIOT's attempt to class lock an item to assassins only is, yet again, showing why class-locking items is such a bad design philosophy! In this case, the item is overloaded with stuff in the hopes to make the item only attractive to assassins.

Maybe it's time to classify Miss Fortune as an assassin! I've posted before about how people don't actually understand what an assassin is and, by corollary, how to design properly for them.

Edon the Great5 votes

remove duskblade i say. league has become more of a one since it came out it gives assasins the power to miss all their skill shots.

WeaselRune5 votes

item 3147 is just like the old item 3165 from the mage update. Youre in the target class of champs, you cant NOT buy it. There isnt any itemization choices where you can choose "I want to do this, or maybe this instead," NO... it does all the things you would want and then some. Its a no brainier rush buy.

Itemization has been dumbed down so much since when I started playing. Sure every class had an item they would certainly try to build, but didnt always have to be the first item built.

The games are so short, and the damage so high, there isnt much room for off-builds.

HaIlMonitor3 votes

omega lul, read the wiki cost breakdown.

p a t r i o t1 votes

Pretty sure many of us assassin players despise duskblade because Riot always gut champions based on that aids item.

HaIlMonitor1 votes

I have a mixed feeling on it. I actually like when classes have a "core item" that way they can buff or nerf a large amount of them via one item.

Tbh I like the concept of Duskblade but they should make it more strategic where you have to be out of sight for an x amount of time before you can get the bonus damage and if the opponent spots you for Y amount of time ( they should allow maybe 1-3 seconds so they can have a chance to hit you at least ) it resets again and it does less damage. ( maybe less than getting youmus so there’s a trade off) at least then when I play Rengar I feel rewarded for denying vision and catching someone stranding off verses it just being a must buy item

Heck that would mean if Rengar is spotted by a ward while ultimg his damage would likely be less.

fƒ151 votes

I think it should at least have a legit cooldown??? Wu kong can proc it another time every time he presses w or shaco and the slow with it just feels so unfair. With the lethality nerf it is getting, it needs to not disable wards and make it so that people who take duskblade are forced to actually get oracle lens instead of this... it's ridiculous.

Just remove the item wtf
