Surrender Rework

Hello everyone, I thank everyone in advance for their time reading my post and commenting. My post is broken into multiple sections and there will be a tldr section at the end.

The current problem: As many of you know the balance between the surrender/give up mentality and the never surrender mentality is not in a good place. Basically you have lost games where 2 people can hold a team hostage and you have winnable games where people quit too easy and you get cheated out of a good game; in either case, the system needs a rework and I have come prepared with the solution.

Solution: Start out by making surrender votes a simple majority rule. Second make non votes not count. Therefore a 3/5 surrender goes through. Now lets say 2 people vote yes, 1 no, and 2 non votes. The current system counts it as a 2/5 when it should count as a 2/1 and go through.

Next we make the cool-down time for starting a vote drop to 3 minutes. After having voted yes in 3 unsuccessful votes the player may leave the match with no penalties (see chart below) and start a new match immediately. Any players who stay and finish the match get bonuses if they win: in ranked the winners split the LP the leaver would have gained, in normals players get extra honor progress and possibly a tiny but of BE. Everyone gets 3 free leaves a month, ranked queue and normal queue gets separate counters and separate punishments for abuse.

Chart A (Leaving game, Ranked) 1st time: Counts as a loss 2nd time: Counts as a loss 3rd time: Counts as a loss 4th time: Loss takes away twice the amount of LP 5th time: Loss takes away twice amt of LP 6th time+: also adds a low priority queue

Chart A2 (Leaving game, normals) 1st-3rd time: no penalty 4th+ times: low priority queue that increases each time

The logic behind the system:

  1. Majority rule is pretty straightforward, 2 people should NEVER have the right to hold 3 people hostage it makes no logical sense.
  2. People who do not vote did not vote, it is not fair to auto add their vote as no; might as well make them default to yes. Therefore their votes were not cast and do not count. Simple logic for you.
  3. LoL is a TEAM game, meaning you need a TEAM to win; if your team mates want to ff then they are not going to play to win and you do NOT have a TEAM, you have a collection of individuals not working together. This goes against the entire idea of LoL and therefore people who cannot commit need an out and NOT be held hostage. Having people leave might suck, however it id a better alternative to them feeding and flaming.
  4. People who are able to persevere and come back from a bad situation deserve to be rewarded.
  5. Although leaving should be an option, people should not be leaving every game; only really bad ones. Giving a few leaves per month allows people to choose wisely which games they truly want to give up on and which games they should try harder on.

Tldr: The current system promotes toxicity and is not acceptable, by changing votes to a simple majority rules and eliminating non votes the results will be more logical and more fair. Furthermore by adding a system of allotted leaves and a system to punish abuse and reward positive behaviors we can remove more toxicity and appease both the alienated players and the never surrender players.

Sorry for any typos, this was written on my phone.

Anyway thanks for your time, I would love to have a discussion on the issue.

I think this helps people who don't want to be stuck in games with people who have bad lag spikes, ping issues, and intentional feeders or toxic players if one or multiple players get tilted. I agree that it helps by being more fair with the majority being accepted. This way people can't hold others hostage in a game not worth playing if their team refuses to work together and focus objectives to win the game. Now if only Riot would look at this and try it!

i couldn't care less about ranked but as for normals this system is not bad but it ain't flawless either. if the surrender vote became a 3/5 it's be much easier to be abused by trolls. right now it takes only two trolls to hijack a game. but add one more troll and they can force a game to end early with only 3 votes. by keep it at 4 votes it makes it harder to be abused. so that will not fly. non voters not being counted in the vote might work but it might not work. i'm on the fence on that. as for the free, limited, leaves it would encourage people to actually use the exit button to leave instead of spamming surrender even when it was a fail 4 times in a row. so i could see that being useful. now for the reward system for those that stay and end up winning. again, i couldn't care less about ranked but with normals the person who left should earn no exp and those that stayed and won receive a portion of the leaver's exp that they would have won, on top of the exp they themselves earn. so while i can't say i support this idea fully, you didn't invoke the wrath of Sir Render either. (a persona that i made who is a spin off of Mr. Resetti) [slayer-jinx-wink]

Riot had 8 years to look at this problem. What makes you think they even care or bother to even look at the post?

One of the worst ideas I have ever heard. The game already has a plague of people who want to forfeit at the first sign of issues if they're personally not doing well and spam surrender votes. This idea would make playing Ranked games and carrying horrible teams a living hell.

If people are so keen on losing and giving up, don't play Ranked games.

If the team doesn't want to play the game anymore and starts throwing to end the game, that's called griefing. It's against the Summoner's Code and is punishable. If you don't want to invest in a TEAM game for 40 minutes, don't play team games. If your idea is only for Normal games, then fine. But playing Ranked games is really what everyone is talking about with these threads and your idea is not acceptable for a Ranked atmosphere. It destroys the integrity of Ranked games and would make games even more toxic than they already are.
