how come magic resist doesn't apply to all magic?

if sona heals olaf for say 200 hp but olaf resists 50% magic how come olaf doesnt receive 100hp?

just curious... at what point does an inanimate object decide to resist 50% of this magic but not 50% of that magic?

That would just be silly. Magic resist wards off harmful magic, not helpful magic.

It's not like in D&D where magic resist effects all spells cast. Unless you saying MR should be changed to MDR (magic damage resist) just for clarification.

Don't think too much into the somatic, that just screws you up. (When I started this game, I thought Annie would Counter Anivia, Only to find that there is no elemental system in place.)

It's just like buffs and debuffs. Take Nami's R for example: If her tidal wave passes thru an ally, it speeds them up. If it passes thru an enemy, it slows them down. So in response to your post, an ally's magic is there to help you. An enemy's magic is there to hinder you.
