That's not a problem with Yi so much as the items

khorney2 votes

yes it is. yi has alpha strike and does true damage not sure how that isnt a problem

ModWulf Helhammer2 votes

Because when he builds squishy, he is squishy, and rather easy to kill unless the player massively outskills you. Most players can't use Alpha Strike to dodge stuff, most Yi's don't use the damage reduction on Meditate to survive/lessen burst.

So no, those aren't a problem

It's mainly highlighting the problem with the items. Rageblade + devourer = cancer combo and a shit ton of dmg. Then he can build w/e the fuck he wants. Tank yi.

But I thought you're talking about Yi just being squishy, and realize that he also builds "tank" items to the point where you can't just treat him as your typical enemy squishy.

I think we should focus on Buff Yi :) honestly

Oh look, a MasterYi Jax Nasus XinZhao that did nothing but farm for 20 minutes. Damn he's powerful ! Come on, his ganking is pretty garbage until he completes 2 items. That is quite a lot of time in the earlygame. Oh, he does have some extremely powerful strengths such as his insane 1v1 scaling, ability to outplay burst and some CC. But doesn't every champion have strengths? Corki is destroying everything with ridiculous mixed damage and a free Rumble ult that lets him travel half the map Lucian is dominating botlane and gets free 40% cdr and unlimited mana with offensive items that make him dash all the time while having stupid damage Poppy earlygame is so stupid that she can beat Trundle lvl 1, her E is now much more reliable for easy stuns, really strong ult and the W that can block dashes !! Leblanc builds item 3001 even against AD matchups and just presses Q+R to deal 80% health of a carry Trundle is unkillable, his pillar is super strong in current meta and can steal a lot of tankines to be the dominating tank DrMundo is unkillable and deals huge damage TahmKench I'm not sure I even need to say sthg about him MissFortune oneshoots teamfights with an ult Ezreal with item 3025 item 3043 permaslows and is uncatchable, while having really strong poke and all inning Kalista the kite queen with one of the best lanings and teamfight potential due to AOE (hurricane) and ult Fiora Yeah, you know. Balanced hypermobility and insensibility to CC with AD scaling %health true damage while being tanky Lissandra Strong laning, ridiculous amounts of CC and her E can catch off guard very easily

Every champion has strengths. There I quoted mostly meta champions, against which Yi pales in comparison. Well, there's a reason why he isn't played in competitive. His strengths simply aren't as good.

Is the problem really item 3124 ? I don't think so. If anything, the garbage buildpath doesn't make it too good and Yi is very well off with a item 3153 as well.

The thing is, over the years, there has been a blatant powercreep in mobility, damage (with the introduction of all the %health and true damage) and crowd control. Which was ridiculous to see, when they had to buff weak picks with low mobility at that time such as juggernaughts, to compensate they basically had to double their damage scalings, provide items with insane late game scaling for good laning presence with stats they wanted such as item 3071 . Also think MF. How much more damage does her ult do compared to what it previously did?

If Riot didn't screw up by releasing dumb mechanics, broken kits and items, we wouldn't have to deal with champions that have to be ridiculous to actually be balanced.

And we wonder why towers are weak. Heh, towers never changed. Kits changed. Damage output and mobility skyrocketted. Even with tanks. It used to be ok for a tank to be very tanky, because he had no damage or couldn't actually CC you for years. Now everybody has damage, so if a tank actually gets tanky, surprise he destroys you. Well yeah, we gave him more damage.

League used to be a strategic game where utility, auras, tactics actually mattered. Fights were longer and more interesting. Now it's everyone blows up everyone in 3 seconds and game, instakill this guy or you get kited to infinity and beyond, let's use my 54 dashes to #LCSBIGPLAYS outplay this guy. Yes I'm probably exagerating and people blowed up also in the past, with dfg for instance, but overall it's a feeling that there were mistakes, and Riot never came back on what they released, they tried to keep the devastating errors they made in the game, and it progressively made it more and more unhealthy and impossible to balance, though it still remains a largely played, very competitive game.

But I'm getting out of the subject there. I just wanted to say Yi kinda has to be stupidly strong in terms of 1v1 while building a bit tanky to be even remotely viable nowadays. He would be garbage if he had to build full damage, he'd just get blown up while having no utility/CC/early presence.
