I'm talking about thematic gameplay that they claim to want to move toward, yet ignore what's in front of them so they can change what's fine out of what seems like sheer boredom.
Using the Soraka example is like saying Malphite is a talking rock so it's fine if nothing makes sense. Okay, so follow me here: this is a fantasy game with fantasy characters. We good for now? In a fantasy game, it's normal that the characters don't resemble realism. Going back to Ahri, this is a fox-girl with 9 tails...because this is a fantasy game, then that part is fine.
What isn't fine is when the developers claim to want more realistic, or to put it better, predictable expectations, and make changes or additions to the game which don't reflect a predictable idea of what the character should or could do. When Gragas used to E someone, it was just damage, which didn't reflect what you would expect. Now when he E's, it's a real body slam, and the impact of a mass that big moving that fast, would undoubtedly make you stumble - which it does. That was an A+ modification to the kit.
Taking away a succubus' "kiss of death" mechanic only to replace it with a random rapidly decaying movement speed buff whenever her orb is thrown is nothing short of idiotic, because the change makes no logical sense in terms of theme, or gameplay. The only conclusion I could draw from this back in season 4 was they wanted her to appear flashier and more fun to watch for spectators as she zips around the lane. It's a conclusion I'm sure they wouldn't admit to, but it's the only one that seems likely, especially with tournaments coming up, since Riot does love their precious spectator sport.
