Buffing the Spellthief's Edge

I feel as if the current mage support meta is weak in the lower elos due to the support not having the incentive to poke or do much in lane. I feel like a slight cd change for the passive would be nice or a higher gold earning from the passive would be great. I feel like the lower cd will be the best due to the support taking more shots at the enemy for the gold.

Buffing things just to make it easier for lower elo often results in making it too strong for the higher elos where everything is actually balanced for. If a low elo support finds it difficult to maximize their gold through Spellthief's or is just a really passive player, I'd recommend they pick up Ancient Coin instead.

True. I was worried about that and it was poking me constantly as I wrote the thread. I dont work for Riot though and have not done 5-6 years of constant changes to have a good understand of the specific consequences that will come from all the buffs/nerfs. This in itself would change a hole shit ton of things. We could have morgana for example become really strong now due to this then the people she counters fall out of meta such as blitzcrank and because blitz is no longer in the picture then soraka would be back on the field more. I personally dont work for Riot and have never done anything in their line of work. It is merely my own suggestion and if it bad then they can simply discard it. Just because I have a problem with this doesn't mean a lot of other people do as well. I could simply be a minority and I accept that but I wished to state what I thought.

Aren't we in a mage support meta? I hardly ever see things that aren't mage supports half the time if I don't ban them.

We are in a mage support meta atm and that is my problem. I just got project Lucian and have played him every game since and have seen the same issue every game. My support every game if it is a mage will not utilize their range and sit back doing nothing. Once I finally get jumped by the enemy they lack the cc and peel due to their kit and because they didn't poke they do not have the items to burst the enemy. The support mage meta wont be a problem season 7 though. Season 7 will be an assassin meta so the supports will be forced to go tanky support to properly peel for the adc. My biggest issue with the support mage meta is the fact that in the low elo I am in, silver 3, my support 100% of the matches wanders off from me and turns into a 2nd mid laner. They act as a mage and a separate entity from me leaving me with little to no peel in teamfights and pretty much ult bait.

Thats not really a problem with spellthiefs, just that your supports are sucking some major asscheeks at doing their job. I personally as a support main don't mind seeing people go AP as a support but if they don't build sightstone and don't peel for the AD then they aren't doing their job. If they wanna be a mid laner that bad then they need to play mid lane. Just tell them to peel for you and to poke a bit more. Should solve the problem.

Well Riot really can't make changes just because low elo is being stupid. That creates more balance issues than it fixes.

And really the item itself is incentive to poke. Cause your not going to get enough gold gen passively. Unless your playing a support that doesn't need gold.

The funny thing about this is, I see a crap ton of Complaints about the Armor pen builds coming out of korea, Which clearly suggests that they are being meta sheep. Yet you don't seem to get the same meta sheep with aspect to the support role. The only way I could imagine that is that the people playing support arn't the support mains. (obviously, we don't have enough support mains)

Either way, it's still dangerous to just buff the spell thief's line. Not only would you make the Mage support meta even stronger. (Reducing strategic diversity) You could bring back the Mid lane FQC builds, that literally everyone complained about.
