I'm terrible at Master Yi

MasterYi is notoriously known as a braindead champion, but I do not do well with him. I watched Cowsep's montages for some inspiration, and I was amazed by what Yi is capable of. Using q to dodge/gapclose/lose turret aggro and w to reduce damage/aa reset, Yi doesn't seem as easy to me as people say.

This sounds silly, but I would like some tips on how to play Yi. I usually end up feeding and getting carried (but I get lots of objectives at least). I rarely get fed. How do jglers get farm? When my team mates back, and I go to their lane to grab a wave, they ping me like crazy to back off! Even if it's pushed at our turret!

Wow, thanks everybody for being so friendly.

Yi has 2 abilities that you can use to outplay. If you are failing - get better internet or get better reaction time by practicing in custom games vs bots. Also you can lose just by picking Yi, because you bring nothing to your team outside of the damage. Try Riven and Yasuo, if you enjoy melee carries. At least with them you are not hard countered and have outplay potential.

I only build bloodrazor for tanky teams. Personal Prefernce? Probably, I just like to quickly execute squishy targets.

the crit build used to be the best build for yi a few patches ago, looks like this patch the bloodrazor-> BoTRK-> yoummus build is back, according to champion.gg

TBH, the simplest champions are the most difficult to consistently do well with, I think. They don't have a lot of options so they're very easy to outplay by the more overloaded kits of recent champs.

However, Yi is defintely a lot higher skillcap than ppl give him credit for - there is a lot of twitch movement and reflex you need to pull him off.

BTW If your laner backs and the enemy laner isn't there, your laner should shove up the wave to turret. If they don't, you have every right to, I'd think.

Sry I can't give more specific advice, I don't play him and don't know his nuances.

right now there is a bug where if you buy an item with an on hit passive all damage you do is delt to you also

I think it applies to self-slow from Frozen Mallet too.

it does, and also lets him slow himself while in highlander

He's low skillfloor but actually quite deceptively high potential in the hands of someone good with him. Of course, he's still really bad in higher tiers of play because he has no CC and is a glass cannon diver/skirmisher/fighter/whatever.

Hi! [slayer-jinx-catface] Plat 5 aiming for Diamond top/jungler, I play a lot of Yi (except for right now due to a lot of bugs with him that make him completely unplayable). I also learned from watching Cowsep.

The best advice I can give you is you should play some custom games of just farming the jungle and practice your meditate AA reset on the camps. Using it to reduce damage comes from predicting, not reacting - You need to know when the person you're facing wants to use a burst or execute ability, and then meditate right at that moment. Don't think about it, do it. When using Meditate to reset your AA timer, you need to instantly click to attack your enemy again. It feels the most fluid when you use it to get your double-strike off.

Similarly with his alpha strike predictions, you have to know when they want to flash, and you have to know that they know you want them to flash, so in most cases you actually have to alpha strike when you think they're going to bait your alpha strike, because they think you'll wait to use your alpha strike and-.. Yeah, it's confusing.

Master Yi can have a multitude of builds that see success, but I find the most fun build is bloodrazer and then crit. Example being item 1419 item 3087 item 3047 item 3031 item 3072 item 3046

The fervor nerf was by the far the biggest hit,

He also sucks in this meta where most junglers simply just do more reliable damage and escape easier. For master yi to succeed he also needs his team to not be afraid, most master yi games i see will have the master yi flanking for team fight while his team backs off and runs away. other times the team expects master yi to be the one to go in first, it may just be a low ELO problem
