counter-jungling
Heres a suggestion to make counter-jungling more relevant.
It starts with adjusting machete. Machete should always grant bonus gold, the amount you receive can change as you upgrade, but for this idea to work, you need bonus gold at the start of the game.
Each large monster you kill grants bonus gold. Instead of instantly obtaining that gold, it is 'stored' in your machete(might get a rename -- 'adventurers kit' or something.)
You do not 'lock in' that gold until you recall. Otherwise, when you die, the gold is turned over to the other team.
Theres actually 2 routes this idea could take:
As stated above, when you return, you receive the gold. When you are killed, the gold is distributed on a ratio similarly to exp to all that participated in the kill.
Another option, which would REALLY change the jungle up -- Each large monster kill grants 5x's the gold. When the jungler recalls, the gold is distributed equally to all team members. If the jungler is killed, half of the gold(or something?) goes to the enemy teams 'pot', which can then be collected.
This would kind of turn the game upside down. The jungler role would change significantly, as would the rest of the teams idea of protecting said jungler. Of course, this idea would need to be refined, as high mobility junglers would have an advantage (i assume as the game progresses, and the team groups up jungling would get less important prior to the tanky junglers getting tanky).
Anyhow. Idea 1 seems a bit more safe of an idea, but i thought idea 2 would be kind of fun to discuss. So have at it.
