What Mid Laner should I learn to play?

So, i'm in search of a new mid laner to learn to play. I don't really care about being a super in-META pick, but i'm more or less struggling to find some-one that is.... me.

Right now i enjoy playing Xerath, Lux and Swain. These are my go to picks as of right now.

  • Lux Lux has a sweet spot in my heart as she is the very first champ i ever played/learnt (She's also how i learnt the support role (Support lux is a real thing people, don't fight it :P)). I enjoy the burst from her, but also the utility she can bring to the table for her team.
  • Xerath Xerath... I don't know what to say about him, he's straight forward to play in a sense. and also forgiving to play mana-wise due to his passive. But I enjoy the Poke from the back line aspect to him. helping the team poke the enemy down before the team fight even begins.

So, these where pretty much the only two champions i played from level 1 through level 20ish. and because of that, i got pretty decent at landing skill shots. I honestly didn't even know that point and click ability's where a thing (because of this, i thought Annie players were gods..... I know better now (I was still learning))

  • Swain I played Swain on a free week, and something just.... clicked. I learnt what it was like to have a point and click ability, it felt amazing. But got really boring after awhile. After playing with skill shots for so long, point and click got boring, really fast. I only really play him when i need a tankier champ.

i have played others, but these are my favorites. but what I've learnt from my time in the mid lane, is that i enjoy more utility based champs that can help the team as-well as providing a burst of damage. i also feel that skill shots add a more, interesting_ (fun)_ level to the game. i'm trying to expand my roster for the upcoming season, and i want to learn a new champ for this role.

Champs i hate that i hate to hate, (because i know there so good in solo Q) = Yasuo Zed Katarina I straight up cannot play these champs. I can play against them, I just can't play them.

Champs that look interesting that might fit my play style that i wanna try and learn. = Ahri Lulu Orianna Zyra

Any suggestions help and a greatly appreciated. thanks for reading and helping :D

I suggest lulu because of her high utility and flexability in the game. She can easily go top mid or support and even other roles if you're good enough. She has a relatively high amount of burst with her e q combo but it won't be killing many people. You kill people over time with your passive mostly. I only play her support but I can see her obvious potential mid/top. Shes counters assassins quite heavily as well as your ult and your w even more so will screw them over biggg time and if they relie on stealth you can e them before they stealth and that will provide vision of them even while stealthed and you can just q them from a mile away while they try to escape you.... Mauhhaha, that ain't happening. Shes really fun and I don't think shes as hard as people think she is.

Lux, Xerath and Swain are all control Mages. Ahri doesn't really fit that style of play; but you have Orianna, Lulu and Zyra listed which can be control mages.

  • Zyra, I would say isn't that great of a champ. You can give her a try and see if you can find something around your play style that fits, but don't spend too much time on her.

  • Orianna is overall one of the best champions to ever grace the Fields of Justice, really solid champion.

  • Lulu is a great utility carry champion, if you ever have someone that looks to Hyper carry like Jinx, she would be a solid pick for her peel power.

Someone that is really good and I think would fit your style is Viktor, really good control mage and a lot of power.
