I've seen a lot of people complain about the BE gain among which I was too. But recently with I noticed that perhaps the gains aren't that bad, because of the missions. These last mission seem to give decent amount of BE for relatively low effort. Before I didn't really count these missions in when I thought the gain is shit. OE gain is still shit tho. Just my 2 cents.
System is worst for vets and people past 35 who only want specific champions (resets at 50 though), for brand new players and people who just want everyone in general, system is better.

The rewards are fine, assuming you don't have literally the worst luck ever.
The BE gains might be slightly lower than IP gains on average, but, at the same time, average BE costs are lower, since you can get champions at a significantly reduced price from shards. So while you might gain slightly less, you'll also spend significantly less.
