I have no clue what the boards are talking about

marpatt11··29 votes·1,899 views

So, I took at little break from league, a week or so, I wasn't done watching the boards however. So most of what I was seeing this past week was "OMG PRESEASON MADE EVERYTHING B R O K E EE EN N N N NN N WEEEEEE NEEED RITO TO FIX THIS HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" but then I played a game. Just now in fact, where we were crushing them, everything was fine, they then looked as if they were going to make a comeback. Not a single flaming word outta them, it was fun, glacial augment blitz is fun, everything was fun. I haven't been really having too much fun before the pre-season, but now its just fun again, idc about the this or that's, its fun again. So why is it hat a majority of the boards are them just complaining? its fun again. And frankly, I am pretty sure thats the point. So lets stop complaining, and play this new world, find out whats actually op, and have some fun with the game. Blitzcrank

EDIT: to clear some stuff up, im gonna put this here

Yeah, it may have seemed like it was my first game with the new runes (which it was) but I've been playing on the pbe for at least a month leading up to runes reforged. So yes, it was my first game with them on this account. But no, it wasn't the first game I played with the new runes.

Yeah.. you played ONE game, that's the issue. Play more and you find out how stupid some things are.

I played like 20 games already and I'm thoroughly enjoying this preseason.

Who is Taliyah2 votes

I am too, wouldn't play the game if not, but there is something awfully weird this preseason. Could just be that I didn't get the hang of the new runes yet or that my main is just super squishy and I die within 1 second every fight.

Malicious Metal3 votes

Well, as expected with the removal of defensive runes. Alternatively ya might want to try resolve secondary, you don't really give up damage for it and it provides some neat little bonuses that allow you to do better against snowball reliant teams and those filled with champions that are out for your blood.

I actually tried out resolve a few times already, thanks for the tipp. Unfortunately I didn't notice any big differences and actually missed my stopwatch and debt.

It's for sure fun for a bit, but after the newness wears off, I at least couldn't shake the feeling that the new rune system didn't really helped with any of the problems the game had before this whole new system.

Games even snowball harder then before, turrets even feel weaker, the game still feels mainly decided by the bottom lane, Top lane is even more an island as before (It barely matters what they do, unless one of them goes like 0/10 in 15 minutes), mages/AP itemization still feels a bit weak, most Juggernauts became a lot weaker, etc.

And then there are just some obnoxious/irritiating new things, like Klepto Ezreal, getting one shot by lethality users, etc.

I will agree that the boards make it sound a lot worse then it is, as overall this new rune system isn't that bad, but you cannot really deny that the rune system didn't fix much of the issues the game has with the old system.

Runes never intended to "fix" the game's problems. Their main objective was to make Runes more than just another burden of knowledge, locked behind a paywall.

They offer meaningful choice, adaptability and they're more interesting.

The game still has the same problems because the runes did not aim to change that. At all.

Do you work for Rito? The only thing these runes did was enforce the meta even more and restrict choice. They're seemingly interesting for 5 minutes, and that's it.

NineTailedMystic2 votes

They don't restrict choice at all. Yea, there are some clear outliers like Press the Attack but it's all playstyle. I like Domination/Precision for Ahri. I've seen people like Precision/x on her or Sorcery/x.

The term "snowball" is not derived from a single change. There are multiple systems that can impact it. Balance of many things, when added together, can influence bigger or lesser snowball potential. "Snowball" in itself isn't a bad thing. Champions have their own power curves so it stands to reason when they hit their spikes, they're harder to deal with in certain situations.

Anger is never about you. It is about the person who is angry. This game relates to life lessons so much it is uncanny and frankly scares me because it has taught me a good bit as well.

Poop Jelly3 votes

Aye. Things are a lot clearer to see from a third-person perspective. At the end of the day, it's usually angry/upset people that have louder voice than the commons.

People are more likely to come to boards to complain than to praise, it's why you can't base the consensus off of boards. Your average Joe Schmoe played a game then went about his day while those most upset by the changes voice their opinion. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, just that it's what it is.

dreamstalkers3 votes

So you played ONE game and you come here to make an opinion on the entire rune system? lol I think you need to play a little more than that to have a valid argument.

I'm guessing you didn't read all of the post, this is the first game on my main account, not my first time playing with the new runes.

You shouldn't put words in other poeples mouths, I was saying I don't understand boards complaining about everything when the game (at least for me) is fun. I never stated that my opinion is the valid one, it completely isn't, heck, opinions can't be valid, only agreed upon.

Actually, opinions can have validity. They just can't be true or false. Almost every opinion is valid, unless it's based on something objectively untrue.

  1. Judging from one game, yet mocks competence of others' complaints

  2. If you played with the runes at PBE, you stating about the brake is irrelevant - probably tried to push some point there but that just made the first point more relevant. Also experience on PBE =/= experience on live.

So like... It makes sense you don't understand it...

  2. I mention the brake from playing on my main because A. I state I was watching the boards more then I usually do, and B. it doesn't mean my point isn't valid

also, that last point. What? I am talking about the boards here, not the game entirely.

its leauge of burst and cheese , little to no critical thinking is anylonger required - point and clicky babysitted monsters and flashy dasyh blinky winky assasins are the future riot chose.

It also depends on what class of champs and role you enjoy playing. The new rune system is highly biased toward squishy DPS champions. If that's what you enjoy playing the most, then you probably wouldn't find much to really complain about.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

It's really not helping squishy DPS champs at all. Marksmen honestly got the most shafted by runes.

Not because they have a lack of good runes. They have good choices. Press the Attack is a great rune, and Fleet Footwork works pretty well for mobility. But they lost their armor and MR runes, and there's more damage dealt in general, meaning they just get bursted too fast to even sustain.

At least adcs have a rune page that accomodates them, same with mages and assassins. There is also nothing stopping them from going into resolve as a secondary.

Bruisers/juggernauts don't really have one that covers all of their needs. The resolve tree is incredibly lackluster for pretty much all of them.

It's really only fun for supports. They're the ones that get to experience the most of the pros from the runes.

You're telling the people who've played more games than you to "adapt to the new world" when you've only played a few games, using your first pre-season game as an anecdote.

I think that's hypocritical; shouldn't you be the one playing more games before saying whether or not pre-season is good/balanced?

Why does no one read the edit? it wasn't my first game with the new runes.

Because the PBE isn't an actual game, or even close to it.

Still though, its experience with the new runes.

Troll for Trump1 votes

The problem with runes is that you don't feel that you're doing enough, or what you're supposed to be doing. I don't think the experience on PBE is the same, since PBE's more experimenting and fun rather than focus on winning

have some fun with the game.

5 minute games are fun to you? Out of control snowballing is fun to you? Sona half-healthing you at lvl 1 is fun to you?

Alright bro, then this preseason is for you. I have three friends whom I play often with, and they all think the game is garbage (which I think too). That's enough evidence for me to move on to better games.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

5 minute games simply don't exist. it's not even decided by them unless you have a troll. Snowballing can very much be stopped if you coordinate. And Sona's always been half-healthing people at level 1.
