Why do we have the tier system?

To better subdivide the playerbase into easy to remember categories. Think of it like the Electromagnetic Spectrum. We have Radio, Microwave, Infrared, Visible, Ultraviolet, X-ray and Gamma Ray. All these names do is define a certain wavelength range so that we have a nice and simple system to rank Electromagnetic waves. We have the Tier system for the exact same thing. To rank and define.
