I've only seen posts about how ADCs, Assassins, and Tanks will be in S6, but what about Supports?

I understand that gold generation is going to be increased in Season 6 which is why so many items have had their prices increased, but for now we know don't the numbers to these changes and how they will affect Supports, who are already starved for gold in most matches.

Supports have 3 choices for items to help them keep themselves alongside their allies in terms of gold. Come Season 6, only one will be buffed, and the others nerfed. The major problem? Before item 3401 & item 3069 overshadowed item 3092 because Frost Queen's didn't give enough Mana Regen, AP for the Supports that needed it (Janna Sona Nami Morgana ), and the Active wasn't nearly as useful as item 3401 item 3069 .

item 3023 was also removed from the game and it's active given to item 3092 as a replacement for it's Live one. This removes a very strong AP item for Supports.

Riot did however listen to the community to an extent about combining item 2049 with the Support items. I say to an extent because the new items only merge with the 2nd tier items so you don't get the item's active while not being able to buy the 3rd tier because of the gold item limit.

These items wouldn't be so bad because they open up an item slot, but you will be sacrificing the 200~ Health from item 2045 plus the new 10% Active CDR on it and powerful actives that can change fights around.

Support Item Changes

Talisman of Ascension item 3069 -20 Movement Speed (20m to 0m) -2g/10 (2g/10 to 0/g10) +20 second CD on Active (40s to 60s) +2g per minion killed nearby (4g to 6g) +100g cost (2100g to 2200g) gold gain across the board is apparently increased, so eh

Overall Talisman of Ascension loses it's major passive gold gain which is an issue when there aren't any minions around, such as in the jungle, river (warding in general), or dead. The movement speed is removed and the active CD is put on a higher timer which greatly removes the utility aspect of this item. It will now practically force Supports to remain in lane pushing with their team. If I go ward and my ADC clears an entire wave, that is 36g that I miss, miss 10 waves (very easy over the course of the game while dead, warding, etc), that is 360g. You see how this can become a problem for the most gold starved role.

TDLR; The Support item that was used for it's utility through personal and team movement speed is losing a large portion of said utility and now only has a single way to get gold. The other Support items both have two; minion execute (FoM) and now passive gold gain and striking Champions (FQC) with passive gold gain.

Face of the Mountain item 3401 -50 Health (500 to 450) +2g/10 (0g/10 to 2g/10) -Execute heal nerfed. The healing no longer scales throughout the game making the healing practically useless. (50 +1% Max HP to Flat 50) +/-Shield explosion no longer deals damage, but does a 40% slow.

Face of the Mountain was a great item for Tank Supports because of the ability to be tanky with the shield, add some damage through the shield, and allow some lane sustain. All the nerfs hit these. The only compensation is the added gold generation.

**TDLR; Loses 50hp and the execute heal was nerfed. It now gives more gold and the shield explodes as a slow instead of damage now allowing more escape and chase options. **

Frost Queen's Claim item 3092 +100% Mana Regen (50%mp/5 to 150%mp/5) +"Tribute" passive buffed. (10g per Champion hit to 15g) +/- New Active. The old item 3023 's active is now Frost Queen's. Frost Queen no longer has damage on it's active but is better at escaping and chasing with the Ghosts. It slows for 40% for 4 seconds.

Frost Queen's Claim has received buffs across the board, which was honestly very needed. item 3069 overshadowed it from superior mana regen and better team supportive capabilities. With Season 6 item 3069 is now getting nerfs to it's gold gain and utility while item 3092 is getting buffs to it's gold gain, utility, and mana sustain which would make it clearly superior to item 3069 if it wasn't for the active.

TLDR; item 3092 is now viable for the wrong reasons. Riot nerfed the competing Support item, item 3069 , in almost every area making item 3092 a lot stronger.

**MAJOR TLDR;

2/3 Support items are getting nerfed, one by a very large degree. New Support items are far from worth the trouble of even looking at them. The old AP Support problem still stands where Janna Sona Nami Morgana need AP items to cope with the high damage that will be coming in Season 6 but lost item 3023 (80 AP) and are going to be harder pressed to get gold.

Instead of balancing the items with equal methods to gain gold and about equal gold gains amount, they are instead removing/buffing the way to earn gold on the items so certain supports that fill a role (harass, peel, tank) will end up with less gold overall.**

I like the new Frost Queen's but I also want to point out the fusion of Sightstone and the gold generation items are interesting to say the least. frees up some room in the inventory.

I feel a little bit bad about Coin but I do think it overshadowed FQC massively. Relic Shield on the other hand definitely deserved any nerfs it got and frankly I imagine tank supports will probably still overshadow the mage supports. It's just great to see them actually address the issues that the Frost Queen line has had for ages now.

Twin shadows was what every immobile-non-rylai's mage needed, without it, only supports will have chasing ability champions like Morgana Viktor Zilean mid need (I can't think of too many... But they exist.)

I'm glad they hit the scaling on the healing from the shields line, but this isn't going to change the Support meta by any means. AP items are still far too expensive for AP scaling utility supports to be expected to afford even with a 5 gold buff. Relic's still shut's down the support triangle leaving tankier champs who can make use of it far more in the meta. Also giving the final stage of blade a huge buff won't change that or anything about the support meta. It's stale because of the healing on relic shield and nothing that is being prepped for season 6 will shift the meta aside from making peel supports weaker than they previously were. If they're gonna be giving supports any other items than the ones announced so far, things might change, till then don't worry about dusting sona or karma off the shelf, they'll still do fairly poorly with the changes.

They nerfed TANKS! THEY NERFED TANKS! Tank Supports at least, which was needed.

Now I can be Bard. Eye of the Watchers is really good for him.

The new sighstone upgrades are underwhelming as well due to the 2 charges on trinkets at level 1 now. The only sighstone upgrade I can see being useful is the jungle tracker's knife sighstone on lee sin, so lee sin can get a different trinket (although the farsight alteration would probably be far stronger on him).

I wish is was possible to fuse the final gold income items with the stone and keep the powers supports NEED good items screw the other lanes "buying them"

Supports get nerfed across the board

You know that 20% item cooldown reduction mastery? Removed and added a 10% item cooldown reduction to Ruby Sightstone

The only slight buff to anyone is just the summonerspell cd reduction + lucid boots

item 3744 is looking to be changed to be support oriented and to be added into the game.

Uh, so what's the point of the thread, to let people that don't check ff@20/PBE about the changes know about the changes? Just making sure if I'm missing anything.

These changes are made so that people now have a reason to build FQC at all, since Talisman does everything better, even more gold generation too. IMO the nerfs are justified, the forgotten poke supports need a place botlane instead of being forced into a solo lane (cough Lulu cough is she even a support anymore rofl) for 2 whole years.

FQC's active isn't too useful as it is VERY easy to miss that skillshot, and that an AoE slow (that has a longer cooldown than other support items) isn't the most useful thing either, therefore justifying that the change is needed.

And don't forget that tank supports outclass non-tanks botlane in (almost) every single aspect (such as harass/zoning, sustain, lockdowns, peels, etc) because relic shield removes their only weakness: heavy poke. That should be looked into as well.

I think Rito wants to make the mage/utility hybrid supports like Sona and Nami more viable, who both suffer from early and mid mana problems. With the 150% base mana regen of FQC coupled with the buffed base regen in compensation for the removal of mana pots, I think we're going to see more Lich Bane Sona supports in season 6.

I really hate the removal of item 3023 just so it can be put on FQC. It combined with Talisman was really great for catching people out. Bad choice on their part, not a fan at all. I'll wait and see how everything looks when they're done tweaking it, but so far I can't say I'm too happy about it.

Posui Gart11/2/2015, 9:58:50 AM1 votes

Talisman was just too strong. It granted nearly as much gold as Frostqueen, but you don't have to do anything for it. It also had greater stats(especially ms) and its active was the best out of that 3. And its not actually nerfed that much, it gives 2 bonus gold per minion, so having 1 minion die every 10 seconds is enough to gain as much gold as earlier. And Frostqueen's active is useless now, it would be better to go for that frostfang+sightstone item
