players who build terribly

lofi n chillhop··1 votes·978 views

tldr: i wish i could give players feedback through a new system that their build wasn't fit for the state of the game; that they needed to have adapted or understood the strengths and weaknesses of the items on their champion. without punishment, just a feedback system.

if you can't look past the rage of a frustrated player, dont read tbe rest.

I'm talking like, devourer on vi. it's bad. I mean, ok, it does damage... but the item's not maximizing what vi's role and capabilities as a champion introduce to the game. it's something you do in normals, but if you do it in ranked? it's basically intentionally feeding. I know it's not, but it's like... you have to learn not to do this sort of thing, or you lose to competition. and ranked is a competitive scene, whether the competitive advance.

I wish there were a good way to help someone realise why their bad build is bad, but players with this in mind practically need an intervention to understand what they're doing wrong, and the only way to do that is through a report system... which would be too abuseable.

I guess I'm just mindlessly venting about something that's a problem. le sigh.

it's like, I wish there was a gentle nudge option next to the report. where if enough people gently nudge you, that you've built awfully, or cs'd terribly, or was out of position to much, you'd get a notification and could be like "oh. maybe it isn't just trolls, and I should seriously work on this..." and that was really all there was to this kind-hearted feedback system.

good luck, summoners. and if you want to be competitive, look at the choices you make.

Devourer on Vi is okay for her Tank Busting build, to be fair.

lofi n chillhop1 votes

that does make some sense. but the vis I've seen, are all "trust it's bomb" and then play as if they don't care. maybe I should be complaining of that instead xD

and tbh the times it makes me groan the most, is when she's the only champ that can successfully build tank...

also, it's one example. most common example.

You mean a sort of "Leave a friendly suggestion for this player" option for after the game. Without having to friend them and stuff, just adding a note instead. Would be cool.

thanks :)

It's people like OP that will report stuff like support Brand, rushing Frost Queen Claim on mid laners, and Blue Ezreal - until the pros do it then all of sudden it's acceptable.

lofi n chillhop1 votes

i never said I had reported anyone for it. i said i wish there was some feedback system or something, that I wish I could report it, aka i can't. and no, i don't knock anything that the pros don't do, I think about what an item brings to the champ and game, maybe I've even tested it myself in normals, and I've certainly seen the items in a action. yes I know devourerer vi does serious damage, but every time I see a vi dive the enemies like she's a tank when she's only built devourerer and isn't sated and then die? I cry. and when a devourerer vi complains about how much the enemy team had snowballed, when the reason is because their Lee constantly ganked or counter jungled while she attemlted to afk farm, I groan. and I'm not saying these strategies can't work, but if you want to incorporate these strategies you have to understand its strengths and play to those strengths, and their weakness and avoid them. and that's what I'm taking about. I'm not talking about people who build strange items I don't understand. I'm talking about people who build a build and then disregard its strengths and weaknesses, and make bad plays because they don't realize their build path isn't enabling their strategy. like that one time I rushed black cleaver and hydra on wukong, but ulted the fed enemy team almost solo and died before my team could even fight with me, and I admit I yelled at them. but someone said, "dude you aren't tanky at all" and I felt so guilty. because I made that mistake. I built one way and played another way and didn't recognize the state of the game.

In that case it's not the build that's terrible, it's the player - who would be bad no matter what they build. So basically you're complaining about LoL players being LoL players which is just as effective as complaining about the sky being blue.

You might want to try some non-standard builds and learn more about your own playstyle - it might help you carry more games which is what you have control of.

lofi n chillhop1 votes

I titled the post, "players who build terribly". YES it's the player. that's my point.I play non-standard builds, I play the champion I know to play. but occasionally I see someone play a non-standard build that doesn't work, and then it doesn't work. and they complain of their teamates. and I CANT give them any advice in person, becuase they'd just call me a presumptuous asshole.

bad post, but i was merciful and wasn't gonna downvote at first. Scrolled up, then saw your name had jinx in it. ok, downvote.

lofi n chillhop1 votes

very constructive. I've learned so much from your post.

A "bad" build is entirely subjective. What you call a bad build, I call the build that works for me and does what I want. Where you build Vi tanky, I build her like an assassin (though I use Warrior). I fly in, nuke someone, fly out -- that's just my style, and I build all champions like that.

Different people, different playstyles, different builds. Get off your high horse and realize that. ^^

lofi n chillhop1 votes

maybe. the player whos actions influence my frustration tho, blamed the team and played very poorly. i guess, bad games are bad games. but, heres a good example. i build runeglaive on maokai in the jungle, because it lets me melt jungle camps and have good damage early. then I build tanky, and if the game goes late enough I sell it for something elsr. it's basically a snow ball strategy.

but one game I couldn't get a good gank in, and my top lane was 0-3 and the enemy jinx was 2-1 and 20 cs lead. snow balling wasnt an option anymore, so instead of buying runeglaive I built first deadman's then cinderhulk then spirit visage. we won that game, because I recognised to audible into the right items. that is the skill that people need to have, along with other skills.

Niyumi1 votes

Yes, adapting your build to the situation at hand is an important skill to have in League, but you have to realize that not everyone knows or is willing to do that.

Why not just suggest items for people, so that they can do better, instead of calling their build terrible?

"They're all AP, build some MR!" "They're all AD, build some armor."

All it takes. ^^

I never said I was perfect I'm speaking from experience on both ends here. I use to be that guy who gave advice and realized it was a bad idea. Most people in league don't want to be coached by random people especially in a losing game it makes them feel they are the e problem. Also I don't like be coached by random people seeing that I have been here since season 1. So I know how it feels.

starting off with this sentence is much more meaningful than your first post. I'm sorry I was bitter. but your first post came off very rude and non-caring :(

I think you are right. my OP was very poor. I wish there was a "rant your anger off" area of the forum, where people can say trashy stuff in the aims of humor and not get yelled at for it xD but the general thought process I had when typing the op was as you say... that people aren't gonna like being told anything and will almost always take it as bm. so it's kinda an impasse...

I totally get you and i really do understand. Sometimes i write quick post without thinking things threw to make sure they seem more sincere. I really do get where you are coming from and i really do understand your point of view. Most people in losing games that receive tips from others go on auto defense and just take it as BM. They don't want to feel as if they are the reason they lost the game. The biggest issue here is not so much giving the advise but giving advise to people who really don't like to think they are as bad as they really are and have no room for improvements. Its very hard to reach people in that way in this game, and if its solo que the stress levels are really high and i'm sure they are thinking of ways to improve or maybe they are trying a build they never have before and its just not working for the team currently. Anyways i hope this helps you a bit more. I think my biggest advice here is to watch how you approach people during the game and be very cautious how you say things and sometimes say nothing at all is the best solution. Just keep it in and hope it doesn't kill you inside. This will help you stay away from getting chat restricted or banned as i have been apart of both punishments. Sorry if i seem a bit ranty i just don't want a fellow summoner to fall for the bait trap that riot sets up in their summoners code, where i have preach about giving advice to people during game to try and help them improve. ultimately it got me into more trouble then it did help. if you want to add me on league i'll play with you sometime i have no issues with players who want to improve hell i still got to improve my self. Have a merry Christmas or happy holidays which ever you prefer.

I've had ppl make comments about my builds...like AP Maokai, my entire AP build for Bard, my dps Sivir and Crit Sivir builds, crit Twitch, Critplank, and my Tanky Frozen Mallet Braum.

My only noobish build was AD Kat, got told that was terrible.

lofi n chillhop1 votes

as a mao main, full ap is horrendous. his ap scaling is too low while his tank scaling is high. "ap mao" is "ap bruiser" with for example, abyssal scepter and spirit visage. or starting runeglaive for its snowball potential of ganks, but then building hardcore tank after to dominate midgame team fights. or when your snowballing with two or three track items, start slapping on scepter or liandri's or luden's so you cant dive their squishies while too tanky from your level and item advantage for them to stop you. any item would do really, but ap items do it with more immediate impact, instead of a prolonged supertank fight.

I miss old tri force on mao. that was the shiz. now it's got all the wrong stats :(

Actually the best solo que vi build includes dev. Look up XJ9 ( considered the best jungler to touch league who got to master in 24 hrs) "dat vi" build. It's a completely selfish, self centered, I'm going to carry you build. I used it when I was tired of trying to work with my team. I would tax, ks, etc.. Because that build would solo carry games.

lofi n chillhop1 votes

that's interesting to know. but you have to recognize that that person has a lot of knowledge and experience with vi, and has a specialized build that enables him to maximize his carry potential. the vis I've seen build devourerer, they don't have the correct know-how to utilize late game build, and force early plays that you don't go devourerer to do. and, any champion that can build tank or carry, you have to recognize when the team has damage and needs a tank. damage is not the only way to carry a game. a skilled support will carry by getting their team feed from good picks and roams. a good tank player will carry with great engages or peel. carrying any role is about understanding your damage in any scenario and survivability in any scenario. playing with the team is about recognizing when to fight where. and if you don't know those things, wonky builds will drag you down and make it harder for you.

Well then the problem is not the build, it's the player who doesn't know what that build does. What if a Warrior Vi acts like a Sated devourer one? She doesn't know she's weaker than that one and will lose that 1 on 1 against let's say, another duellist that she would have won if she had a sated devourer. Does that make warrior bad? God no!

It's not the build. It's about knowing your champion, knowing your powerspikes, knowing what you can do with X build, when the opponents have Y build. Basically knowing how to play league of legends.

lofi n chillhop1 votes

but, that's my point! that the player isn't playing their build well. I'm not saying you can only build one build on a champion - that's bullocks. you adapt to the game, the matchup, your team, their team. and when players ignore that and build useless items, like devourerer on a vi in a game with 9 mages and adc's, it's practically throwing the game. item builds matter... you have to as a competitive player learn to recognize when an item is successful and when it isn't.

People who are 0-5 as support and build full apc makes me sad.

lofi n chillhop1 votes

yeah... like, last year I didn't mind it so much, and if it's brand or lulu I'm not all that upset. but right now, mage supports are basically snowball or bust.

Ship 0F Ducks1 votes

someone got upset with me cuz I didn't go devourer on yi in ranked. I personally don't think there should be a system that will basically tell you that you're not building the most popular way.
