Last game yi only had ONE lifesteal item an it was enough to completely negate the damage that thornmail puts out can we do something about the damage or what? or maybe it applies grievous wounds? i dont know but right now i dont see the point of thornmail if just a little bit of lifesteal can make it useless

Kaìju1 votesYi also doesn't really lose to thornmail since he doesn't do mostly AD against tanks, he does mostly true damage. I've payed full armor Malph, died to Yi, and when I look at the stats it says he did 1600 true damage to me. Thornmail screws over auto attack marksman, not all auto attackers.

Also funny enough the optimal way to counter this is to buy a second thornmail. +25% bonus armor.(vaynes tend to oneshot themselves on this) 50 from two thornmails, get a sunfire to stack damage on top of it. + 12. Morellonomicon procs off sunfire and thornmail(too bad they have to be at 35% hp). They have to be next to you to auto. Or just get a mortal reminder just have to auto him you can do it at 100% then, you're going to be next to a Yi anyway and will be going through his armor. 105 magic damage per second sitting there. Get a ninja's tabi and a final tank item of a spirit visage for MR/hp. Riot doesn't put Grevous wounds on thornmail since everyone would buy it, it has no counter.
RookPusher1 votesI never understand the hate. Even if LS is negating the damage, it's a reduction of the overall net increase in life. Coupled with Sunfire, and assuming you've applied GW to them, you should be handling the situation.

It's not really to do damage.
It's also for cheap tank stats - rushing a Thornmail has served me well on Irelia and Nautilus against Jayce, and that was when Jayce was super broken. Also because they're too dumb to get Cleaver/lifesteal items - it means his poke is super uneffective, you don't take as much damage from his %health E.

regardless thornmail is only good on ramus and even then its not always built anymore because of armor penetration items being good and cheap.

Linna Excel1 votesI think it's specifically a tank/bruiser item to deal with ADCs. There's no health to the item, so it's pretty useless on its own. It's meant to be put with other items that grant HP and Armor.
