How to play against Rammus late game?

I recently played a game as Garen versus a Rammus top. Come late game, we were both doing fairly well in our respective jobs and were effectively neutralizing each other. Are there things I should be looking to do against Rammus late game other than just keep him from being able to taunt anyone in the backline? I felt like we ended up just sitting there waiting for one to die from the rest of our teams, and whichever died first lost the teamfight.

Build Magic Resist- not armor. Rammus is AP and Armor. He doesn't need to build AD- he gets AD from his bonus Armor, and most of the damage he deals is from his AP abilities. Also, you might want to get AP damage on hit effects. Rammus doesn't build MR early- and he won't be so quick to taunt you if you can overwhelm his W.

QSS taunt then ignore him. Its pretty simple. But as garen I'd invest in merc treads and elixir of iron.
