Rod of Ages...

Why is it in no guides, and does no one build it? It seems extremely efficient, and doesn't take all that long to full stack. I realize mana is meh these days unless you get Archangels but 500 health and 100AP on a single item seems super efficient to me. Not counting Eternity so much as it's kinda meh. It seems pretty good on almost any champion that uses AP at all.

Rylais is 200 less health, 10 less AP, with much more utility granted for 100 more gold, but it seems strange people don't consider ROA an option at all.

ROA is a situational item at best. considering the stacking fact of it. you 1st need a champ who needs the stats, 2 have time to stack it with out falling behind 3 looking to have power spike mid game. 4 want to or need to rush it on a champ

due to the faster meta, upfront damage trying to stack a roa kinda puts you at a disadvantage

Its a simple case of anything Roa does other items do better. Rylai's and liandry's synergy, ludens or serephs for CDR and mana sustain. RoA gives no utility, and it's sustain is terrible. The only champions that would really build it are those that aren't going into the Rylai's Liandry's route, at which point there is morello's, lichbane, Banshees, Zonyas, void staff and Deathcap. All in all there's just nothing special enough about RoA unless you're a mana heavy champion going for a double stack or an AP tank going for some early AP.

Interesting. I haven't really touched Liandry's since the nerf. It just feels so much weaker than it was. Been using Rylais with RoA a bit on Amumu just to stack HP while having AP. Liandry's doesn't feel like it adds much damage unless the enemy is really tank heavy.

It's still good on champions with DoT's like Malz as it now does % max HP rather than % current HP. Amumu would be an example of an AP tank getting some early AP though, much like Galio.

I like to build rod on ap champion such as ryze or karthus. Not only does it gives mana, it gives some tankiness against assassin or adc. The reason I believe people don't usually build it now is that it takes like 10 minutes to stack, and so they would prefer to have an item that gives a better power spike.

In most cause against assassin zhonya hourglass would be the better choice. Luden also gives mana and more damage for the early game, since mages don't tend to do as well as other classes in the late game.
