Why doesn't Cleanse remove suppression?

It doesn't make sense that summoner 1 doesn't remove suppression. item 3140 can remove suppressions, but that takes an item slot. However, bringing summoner 1 is an entire summoner spell slot, which is super important. With one summoner spell slot taken up, there's only room for summoner 4 or summoner 6 or something like that. item 3140 takes up one of six item slots, and you can just sell it late game. Also, it wouldn't absolutely shut down most champs with suppressions, because you usually won't see multiple suppressions on one team since they're so rare. So, if you brought summoner 1, it would be for one champion, and you might need summoner 4 as well as summoner 6/summoner 3. Even if you bought item 3158 and brought Insight, it would still have a cooldown of 160 seconds, while item 3140 would have a cooldown of 90 seconds without buying item 3158 and taking more defense for the increased cooldown on it instead of more damage.

IDK, this just seems a bit weird to me, just my opinion. Thanks for taking the time to read my opinion on summoner 1 not removing suppresions. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

QSS would become irrelevant, QSS also takes a lot of power from Malz and WW as well. Cleanse would just cause them to get a power buff in their other skills to compensate.

There was once a time where proportionately more champions had suppression and Cleanse was a much stronger summoner spell, and at that time it hard-countered picks like Warwick and Malzahar, who didn't have much to do when their ult wasn't up. Malzahar may have the same issue now, but Warwick is a significantly improved champion, and even Skarner has a few things to do outside of his ult, so I don't think think it would be as bad. Suppression is technically meant to be an uncounterable stun, but the differences between the two crowd control types are debatable, and fundamentally hinge on mechanics that themselves aren't so great (CC cleansing tends to be very situational and not exceptionally interesting, while Tenacity messes up clarity and is also not very interactive). Because of this, I do think either Cleanse should remove suppression, or suppresses should just be turned into stuns, but we could also do with a pass to CC and anti-CC effects to establish a lot more consistency, as well as more modern design rules.

Problem is Cleanse as a Summoner spell is so generally available that it needed some form of diversity. If they would make Cleanse as a summoner spell remove surpression aswell, then it would quite possibly be picked in botlane by almost every single adc out of fear of seeing those brand and malza supports. Plus, it would completely shatter QSS as an item and make it direly require a rework.

Long story short. too much balance work as of right now. maybe in the future we can consider this, but as of right now it would mean nothing but trouble for the balance

It'd be too hard of a counter against certain champions. The whole drawback about suppressions is that the caster is also "suppressed" so to speak. That's enough of an opportunity for counterplay, at least in a teamfight.
