Why is full lp deducted when you lose a game due to an afk/rage quitter in your team? (after remake)

Have had a rage quitter/ afk in my last three games. Won one lost 2. It's ridiculous that I lose 40 lp because of variables unrelated to skill. One cannot carry a 4v5 every game in gold.
