So what exactly do people dislike about GP? The 40% armor ignore?

No suggestions this time, I want to hear from you all about why he is such a divisive champion. Is it because he can carry if the player is good? Is it his E killing everything?

I'm really curious because I haven't sorted out what everyone fusses about. Is it the 40% armor ignore on his barrels? Would removing that and giving him a big buff somewhere else fix it?

because a good gp player can never die in lane. There's literally no counter to him, if he puts his barrel on him or behind him he can still clear the wave with them and you can't hit the barrels. He basically has a free laning phase, and he scales extremely hard. He can also sit in lane and ult other lanes for kills/assists while he farms up.

There's basically no counter to a good gp

edit: all this while he basically counters every melee champ, you can't kill barrels that are on top of him, and when you engage he just backs off and pops his barrel

Uh I suppose his barrel stock recharge system always instantly recharges to 3 barrels. I suppose ranged champions don't exist. I suppose his immensely ridiculously high skillcap putting him at near one of the most difficult champs in the whole game isn't a thing.

But yes, he is very strong for those who know him well.

you can literally put a barrel under you and farm with Q, and the barrels will recharge

I think it is because why he carries super-hard himself, at the same time it is extremely hard for most toplaners to make any aggressive plays on him to shut him down.

If you go at him, he will just pop a barrel, applying it's extremely heavy slow and gaining MS himself. Even if you manage to somehow root him, he has remove scurvy, and yes it has long cooldown, but for most toplaners getting close to GP more often than 22 seconds while maneuvering between barrels is simply not realistic.

And even if EVERYTHING finally goes wrong for GP, many champions will be forced to forget about fighting him, due to absurd damage (and another slow) of Cannon Barrage.

So, he carries hard, and many champions can't realistically do anything about him, because he is just too safe. GP is basically AD Azir at the moment - yes he takes skill to play, but this doesn't nearly make up for strength he gets and terrible gameplay for his enemies.

People dislike Gangplank because:

Because as an adc main, you can never fight bot lane when the enemy has a GP... Atleast with Shens ult his cd is almost double and doesnt happen instantly. You can sidestep Shens E so if he does ult and miss he has generally no impact unlike GP who doesnt miss and stays in lane.

My biggest issue with GP is that he has access to large quadrants of area too freely at all stages of the game. His barrels are a big part of his zones of control and they are very potent. They can be countered even in a teamfight which is fine but the biggest offender is his ult. I guarantee you if they nerfed his ult range alot (max range 1200 units), basically keeping it within his lane/maybe slightly extending to as far as rift herald from his Tier 1 tower if her were red side, he would be dropped like a hot potato by many. His ult does a lot of damage, it slows it can turn an entire fight around during laning phase anywhere on the map, give him free kills/assists,clears waves, stops seiges, makes seiges good, great for engages/disengages. He's not a fair champ when you consider the freedom of his ult and his scaling.

He feels so damn bad to play against. His barrels hit for over 1k in a huge aoe, he get bonus gold for last hitting with q, and his ult is so frustrating. Even when behind he does massive damage and can come back easily with his ult and insane dmg with a few items. Even when built full damage he is insanely hard to kill and has a cleanse that heals as his w.

I could probably live with his armor penetrating barrels if they didn't slow you when you got hit.

I could probably live with the barrels slowing you if he didn't have the armor pen.

Its kinda like how Azir's soldier Q can deal damage and slow you in the radius it does.

Choose either or, but not both.

I just think his barrel minigame is dumb.

I don't know why others dislike him, but the only thing I don't like about him is the speed boost he gets when blowing a barrel. Once he gets CDR he can just run around at high speeds if he really wanted to.

As a Garen main I don't like feeling forced to buy Dead Man's Plate, particularly after they decided to nerf Garen's movement speed, Q speed boost, and my favorite pair of boots, but going against champions who can outrun me even after I get Dead Man's with only CDR will always put them on my bad list.

I like playing Gangplank, but it can be frustrating playing against one. The enormous, relatively safe damage, the multiple aoe slows (hate being cced), on top of all of that the cc removal/heal, and the fact that, on almost any champion, you're playing on a timer (with that much ranged aoe, his lategame teamfighting is absolute). I'm not good at game balance, so I won't suggest anything. Maybe what I've mentioned will help someone else come up with an idea.

Also, if a Gangplank has good barrel mechanics (triple barrel combo), then it's just awful to play against (not that I find a lot of them).

yeah, the armor ignore is what bugs me.

Personally I think he is really strong because he counters all top lane melee champs with his barrels cause they can't kill it with out getting in range. Then the ranged top lanes can get poked by his q with massive damage. If he gets poked he can heal with his w. I played gp vs nid top and could two shot her with my q. I tried my best to dodge her qs but when I messed up I could just heal. if she went all in i could kill her with ult and q with an fire auto attack. There was nothing she could do to stop me.

I have only played against GP once this season and i was Kennen. I didnt see him as that big of a deal so im indifferent.

For me it's the ult. Its like with karth, he forces the other team to play incredible passive and riskadverse while he can just farm 24/7 and have massive impact around the map with it. Aditional, it's barrel crits with the flatpen+IE built. Just pokeing with longranged chains which slow and give him a speedboost, so you can't really do shit do him duering the cd if you can't tryhard force a fight or objective as a team, and once it crits with the 20% chance some of your squishys most likely died. I just despice RNG in such games, and if it's as imactfull as on GP, it's all the worse.

I dislike that I have to play a barrel minigame and that Q doesn't crit anymore. (as in the base damage of Q doesn't crit)
