Consistently Matched Up Against Better Players

Yes, I know: this thread has been made a bazillion times. But from what I've seen, I'm not in quite the same predicament as the others are. The other people who posted similar threads still win some of their games. My problem is that from levels (roughly) 15-27 (27 being the level that I am now), I've been matched up against teams consisting of Bronze, Silver, Gold, and sometimes even Platinum players. Not only that, my team always seems to be at a disadvantage from the very start; hardly any of my teammates are ever ranked or even above level 30, as a matter of fact. Sure, if I won at least a handful of these games fairly (w/o people who disconnect/quit), I wouldn't be complaining: "Being put up against better players lets you learn!" Yeah, yeah, I heard that before. Sure, I learn, but I hardly ever win. I learn and I get flamed at, but alas, I'm still losing almost all of my normal games. I main support so that's probably also an issue there. High MMR, you say? Well, no matter how "good" I am, I stink on ice if my partner sucks. Oh, but look at who Riot pairs me up with! A bunch of other... WONDERFUL... people who are not that well-versed in the game either. And no, I am not yet one of those supports who can carry. Why am I not one of them yet, you ask? Well, I can't practice because I really don't feel like playing a game in which I consistently taste the bitterness of defeat because of unfair balancing. You see what I'm getting at? I. Don't. Feel. Like. Playing. Anymore. What fun is a game in which you always lose? I may be coming out like a sore loser, but be honest with yourself, no one likes to lose almost every game. And to be frank, I hate being purple side (and Riot even admitted that purple has a slight disadvantage. I can imagine the disadvantage would be even greater for newer players such as I who still feel uncomfortable with unlocking the camera), but I'm also 99.9999999999999% purple side AND against higher tier players. You'd think that it would be a 50/50 chance of being blue side. Not for me. Hardly EVER am I blue unless I'm in a bot game. Bad luck? BS, that is some insane juju, then. Is it just me and my "pessimistic way of thinking" or does Riot deliberately give one team a handicap there? You know, the team that already has two or three handicaps? "If you keep losing as a support, just switch roles." No, no, I don't roll like that. Support is the only fun role for me and I won't be changing unless I have to fill. I love supporting, but when it's Gold I and Gold III bot lane against two measly little unranked players who haven't even reached level 30 yet, it's not fun. At all. If we simply lost, that would make the situation less stressful, but those people almost always say something like, *"Yeahhhhhhh, we just wiped our ass cracks with bot lane." * Isn't that just the sweetest thing? I know Riot can't do much about people like that, because then 95% of the gamers would disappear, but I'm just emphasizing my argument as to why I hate constantly being put up against better players who do, indeed, wipe their ass cracks with bot lane. So take it easy on us, Riot. Or at least give people like me a manageable game every once in a while. I love League, but all I can ever do now is play bot games to avoid these very intense situations. The only times I do win these games is when someone from the other team disconnects. Also, does MMR take into account your bot games? The only reason I'm level 27 is because I played a lot of them (to the point where it's too easy), but I only have 40-some wins (and probably 5,000 losses). And even if I play normals with other fellow Leaguers, Riot always throws players at us who are much better. If you're going to do this to us, Riot, just make a bot mode that's a step up of Intermediate. And no, not Doom Bots. Please, I'm growing beyond tired of this.

I typed a moderately long response, but meh, forget it.

Long story short normal MMR's flucuate wildy because there's no ranks to assign to people so if you win enough you'll start playing with people that have play a lot more of the game than you.

Chances are you'll probably lose some more and it'll quit throwing golds at you.

The thing is, even though I keep losing, I'm still being put up with these golds.

Oh, you must be new! Welcome to the shitstorm that is League of Legends matchmaking! Just wait until you start playing Ranked and get to play against Gold 1's in your Silver 3 promo! Oh, and with a team of four Silver I's and a Bronze I. Because that's balanced.

LOL. That actually does sound normal. btw. 4 Silver 1s, and a Bronze 1. It must be that a Silver 1 is duo'ing with a Bronze 1. Duh. Also, I'm in Silver and I play with Golds all the time. It's not that impressive to be facing Golds in Silver matches. I even beat a Gold 3 in ranked that was Season 3 Platinum and apparently mained Irelia, and I'm just Silver 3. When you're Silver, Golds shouldn't be a big deal (unless you really deserve that Silver V division or something). Golds should only be a big deal to non-level 30s.

After year they've claimed they updated matchmaking and made it better multiple times, but this shit still happens. MMR/Elo for Chess is not suitable for a 5v5 game, the main cause. So people who do terrible in 1 game but win, are still carried into the next games with the same people even if those people are worlds better. It's not unreasonable to think this could happen 10-20 games in a row. There are other issues I believe but this is one of the main causes.

At low Elo, win/loss is largely luck, or whoever has the better smurfs on their team, so the first 10-40 games you still see those beginners playing against golds and better because MMR is too dependent on win/loss which is NOT a very reliable factor

I even made a 'smurf' account because I'm matched against golds, platinum, diamond even on my unranked account because it's level 30.

No, not every game is imbalanced this hard, but a significant amount are extremely imbalanced one-sided matches. It almost always comes down to who has the more smurfs, it's never a fair '10 beginners match', instead it's a '6-8 beginners mess around while 2-4 smurfs carry hard and the beginners have no idea how anyone won or lost.

As a fellow support main, also leveling (just hit 30 yesterday), I think the high demand and low supply of supports gets us into even more disparate matchups than other roles sometimes.

Teams with higher MMR need a support, and there simply aren't any available, so they get me instead :)

Oh, that's true. I didn't think about it that way. Thank you for your input!

Hello,

I can't say my problem has ever been as bad as yours, but I think everyone runs into it occasionally. What game mode do you play? I know normal blind is the most common, so I have a few suggestions. Being no expert at how the system works I claim no accuracy to my suggestions and also claim no reliable correctness. If you have not yet tried team builder or draft mode, maybe try those. I think the mmr of each mode is exclusive, so if you switch to supporting in draft pick or team builder, you are more likely to get even match ups. Or at the very least you'll have a blank slate to work from. Supporting is a lot of fun, especially once you get to a higher mmr and consistently have people who know how to play in your lane with and against you. Another suggestion is find a duo partner who will lane with you, or a group of people who enjoy playing together and make the game fun even if you lose (these people can be hard to find but they're out there). Also, playing dominion, Aram, and twisted tree line is another fun way to play the game and while there isn't a strict support role in these modes they don't have a meta so much and they also are very fun. Especially with the right people. If definitely try switching to team builder or draft pick just to see how your games turn out. If that doesn't help I hope something does!

Thanks, Mortem Revera

Thank you, I appreciate your suggestions and I will definitely try them out. I just did normal blind picks for the most part. Hopefully it gets better :)

But then again, even in team builder I'm up against better people... I do blind pick in hope that the other team goes way out of meta and we have an advantage.

Team builder takes into account how much experience you have playing with a champion. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I've seen someone say that he got paired against a Diamond player playing a champ he/she had never played before but was still able to stomp the entire enemy team.

Oh, I see. That makes sense. Thank you :)
