PSA: Thresh is a ranged champion

He can't execute with relic shield. He has to last-hit normally in order to proc it.

The auto-attack animation is weird, so getting it mixed up is understandable. Also makes sense thematically, since Wardens aren't supposed to execute on the fly.

Edit: I don't mean don't take it, it's a wonderful item on Thresh, just remember the execute passive doesn't work. That's all I'm saying.

Thresh has a passive on his E:

Passive: Deal Magic Damage on each hit that builds up when not attacking. This value is equal to total souls collected plus up to 80/110/140/170/200% of Attack Damage, based on the amount of time since his last attack.

This allows him to cs without execute with relative ease, often hitting as hard as an ADC with his first strike every couple seconds.

Ooh, good point. Mind if I add that to the end of the post?

Don't get me wrong, it's a great item on Thresh, but some people get confused with the execute portion because Thresh is ranged but appears melee with his attack animation.

Ooh I see what you mean, since it doesn't appear to be a projectile like most ranged attacks.

It's very confusing, I admit. Even I thought it was a bug at first.

Aaaaaand looks like my OP wasn't very well received. Well, at least I tried to help.

Yes, he cannot use the execute. But he CAN still proc it and the Relic Shield is the best support item on him because a) it gives him sustain which is literally the ONLY thing he doesn't do as a support and b) it gives him the extra durability he needs to go all-in. So you should still take Relic Shield on Thresh and just out in the damn extra effort to get the last hits.

I know he can proc it D: He has to just last-hit.

It takes a lot of effort, but it's certainly worth it. Just a few people get frustrated when they can't execute with it, so just wanted to remind everybody.
