Getting experience in game.....

I'm unsure how exactly you get experience in game. Is last hit for exp or gold ? or both. If you are just near to minions that die do you get exp ? And can you see how close you are to you champs next level ? This is all in game I am talking about.

  • Last hitting is for gold.
  • You get experience for minions etc. dying near you.
  • You have a purple progress bar next to your champion's portrait. It indicates your level progress.

Is there a way to see if your close enough to get exp ? and then that leaves me with the question about getting exp in the jungle ? Do you then lose getting minion exp and have to kill the jungle monsters to get exp ?
