item 3092 =item 3303 -> item 3098 + item 1028 (1250) + 550g = item 3092

Essentially. item 3092 Gives 200 HP (So lets base this off what item 1028 is like. (400g / 150hp = 2.6666~ hp per gold.) So the 50 extra hp you're obtaining is around 133.33~g

Ok Great. 850 item 3098 + 400 item 1028 + 133.33~g (for 50 hp) = 1,383.33‬ SO the 15 ability power your getting over item 3098 is approximately 326.25 (21.75g * 15ap)

So the cost of item 3092 is 1,709.58‬ in stats. You're paying an extra 100 gold for garbage :/

item 3092 = 1800g (Cost of it SHOULD BE LESS THAN 1709.58g)

You get the gold per minute or whatever, you get the CDR on both, you have 20 ability power on frostfang is 15 for 326 really good enough over item 1052 or something better? You even keep the same mana regen it doesn't go up like ANY OTHER support items.

Let's look at some others shall we?!

item 3069 = item 3301 -> item 3096 + item 1028( 1250) + 250g = item 3069

Stats: item 3096 = 10% CDR, 10 Movement, +2 Gold /whatever 50% HP Regen. item 3069 = 10% CDR, 10 Movement, +2 Gold /whatever. THEN 125% BASE hp regen AND +200 HP.

  • Cost: Lets not even look at the CDR, Movement or gold generation like we didnt with watchers.

Regen: 225g (3g * 75hpr) HP: 133.33~ (50 HP out of ruby crystal.)

item 3096 + item 1028 + 133.33~g + 225g = 1608.33g item 3069 is 1500 gold. You just gained 108g worth of stats FOR FREE.

item 3401 = item 3302 -> item 3097 + item 1028 (1250) + 550g = item 3401

Stats: item 3302 50 hp, 1 gold/whatever item 3097 125 hp, 50% hpr, 1 gold / whatever

item 3401 +10% cooldown reduction, 1 gold/ whatever, 350 health, 200% base health regeneration

When upgrading: 10% CDR (were not looking at this since we didnt with any others.)

Regen: 600g (150g * 4) HP: 533.33g (400 + 133.33)

item 3097 + item 1028 (1250) + 450g + 533.33g = 2233.33g

item 3401 1800 gold item with a stat value of 2233.33g.

Why are we buying item 3092 is needs a MASSIVE stat increase to even compare. Especially in hp and mana regen departments :/

https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Ruby_Crystal https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Amplifying_Tome https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Rejuvenation_Bead Some value sources for the math.

TLDR: item 3092 = -100 gold. (Losing gold for the item to the stat ratio) item 3069 = + 108g (More gold than the stats are worth.) item 3401 = + 433.33g (More gold than the stats are worth.)

item 3098 Buy this and ONLY keep this. Use that 950 On something good. item 3108 Like this.)

EDIT: Sorry screwed up on the regen/gold on item 3401

it's funny cause when the mage supports were all the rage people said the tank support item was useless. so really, all the items are fine.

I actually in rare cases do end up getting that last little bit of the support item(this is assuming im playing support). If my team is refusing to ward, for example, or if im playing soraka and they are chunking my team, I get more health to heal people more, etc etc but you are very much correct, dont upgrade the frostfang.

I never did the math, but as a support main I definitely agree with this guy, but only to a certain degree. I pretty much always upgrade coin and relic shield in games because it feels like a nice stat increase. The shield especially is amazing for the sole reason of stacking the gold income orbs 2/3/4 and the cd of them 40/30/20. The other 2 don't have the third tier of gold income to compare.

What I do almost every game with the frostfang is keep it at tier 2 until I have a spare bit of cash to spend upgrading it. In lanes I'll usually only upgrade it if the enemy jungler is puttin the hurt on us since it does give one additional ward stack, but usually 3 wards/red ward/ and trinket are plenty for laning phase.

There is an argument I think to be made here in that supports are not quite as reliant on the stat checks of their items as another role might be. Picking up the utility of a few smaller items can be the difference in lane since it's not always your place to dish out max damage. If I play someone mana hungry, or i'm just being particularly aggressive I often pick up 2-3 faerie charms for the mana regen. For how cheap they are and how easy they are to turn into upgraded items they give a huge bonus in lane. Even if I end up selling some and loosing the gold I still count them as worth it.

At the end of the day, 100 gold inefficiency finishing your item on a role that drops a couple hundred just on red wards and pots doesn't always make the biggest difference. Of course that's not to say your should just toss your money away :) Supports tend to get least gold in the game so it is important to grab the right items. But just because it's a bit less efficient than the other support items doesn't mean it's a bad item.

I didn't really get into it but i'm sure there's an argument to be made for mage supports being generally safer than up close tank supps that get shield, and so they have weaker items as a balance mechanic. It's a complicated game.

It's almost always a late game buy vs an early rush for the others, but don't forget the gold value of an extra ward. Shits op
