Is Tahm Kench still viable?

I'm considering picking him up, but on all the stat pages, they have him as trash tier. Any high elo players out there disagree? I was thinking of bringing him into the support role.

If you pick him up in top lane, sure.

Support Kench is unreliable in soloQ.

But if the changes Riot is doing to him are any indication, he'll be effectively dead on any and every role next patch.

Hes good if your team already has a really strong group fight and you need someone who can prevent / setup picks and help rotate.

I tend to have a lot of success with him on teams that want to scale to late game since his R will help keep outer turrets and even when in the support role he is JUST strong enough to pose a threat to champions like renekton as long as they don't dash out before he can get 3 stacks on them for the q stun.

Only problem is if your team plays too badly or falls too far behind, he goes from being a godsend to straight up useless due to his inability to stack on enemies and stun them before they nuke half your team / get away.

Hes getting ludicrous buffs so yeah I'd pick him up. Especially support kench.

Short answer: no he is not worth it nor will be for a while.

Longer Answer: His damage is getting a major nerf and so is his ability to perform as a support to the point that you will be a liability to your team. His only potential play point will be as a top laner since his Q harass will be a little more powerful. His devour damage is going way down on tanky targets and his ultimate is non-existant pre level 11.

Riot said they plan on buffing him substantially after they gut his ability to support (paraphrasing based on W movement nerfs).

You will be better off picking a different champion in the long term.
