Why Urgot changes on PBE shouldn't go through (at least yet)

Hi all. I checked up on the pbe today and saw even more nerfs planned for Urgot on 9.4, so I thought I'd try to bring up to the community & riot why I think this is a bad idea. Background info on me I'm a one-trick Urgod who started silver and peaked all the way at Plat II last season (probably could've gone higher but I chose to stop playing ranked for unrelated reasons,) so obviously I'm going to be biased when it comes to any changes to our friendly neighborhood crab man, but I am going to know a thing or two about him since I've played quite a few games of him in most levels of play.

So after 9.2 it's pretty obvious he took quite a reasonable dip in win rate, dropping from his 50%ish w/r to a little under 48% in overall performance in top lane, and he'll probably drop a bit more before he levels out to something around 48.7%, a pretty respectable winrate for the average top laner. Now obviously the nerfs played a pretty solid part in the slow decline in Urgot's popularity and winrate, but a bigger part of Urgot's decline is due to the sudden re-emergence of a man everyone kind of forgot existed: the ghoulie bully himself, big boy Yorick. Now another fun fact about me is before I fell in love with crab daddy, I cracked out quite a few games on the ghoul guy, so if there's one counter to Urgot I know better than anyone, it's Yorick. I could write a whole page on why Yorick stomps Urgot so incredibly hard, but the basics are this; Yorick's Q heal lets him farm without taking alot of poke damage from Urgot Q, ghouls can tank multiple shots of his Purge, and worst of all the Wall closes off Urgot's escape and ability to proc his passive in a fight. Before his buffs Yorick was already a solid counter to Urgot, and now thanks to the well deserved Buffs/QoL changes, he's a champion people can actually play since he FINALLY has some real control over maiden.

So why do I think the buffing of Yorick is the bigger reason Urgot's winrate lowered as opposed to the nerfs to Urgot's kit? It's simple; before Yorick was buffed in 9.2, there was no real viable counter to Urgod in competitive or in higher elo. You can look at OP.GG and see two of Urgot's weakest matchups (MonkeyKing and Shen) aren't even in the TOP 35 of champion's picked in top lane, and the third, Yasuo, is... well, everyone knows how easy it is to dumpster on a Yasuo if you know what you're doing (wind wall stops the ulti but it doesn't stop a big meaty crab man flying at you.) There's a handful of other champions that dumpster on Urgot as well (Chogath, Tryndamere, Maokai, Volibear) for their own different reasons, and again, none of them break the top 35 of played champs or even the tier list for that matter. The biggest reason for Urgot's success in the recent meta is largely in part not because of his own strength (although it did need some nerfing and kudos to riot for nerfing him the way they did in 9.2) but because there really has been noone to keep his strength in check.

Now I'm not going to get into why flat damage nerfs are a bad idea for a champion since we've seen that discussion in boards a thousand times, but the big point I want to make is this; ![Urgot](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.11.1/img/champion/Urgot.png) has stomped in the laning phase the past few months in competitive play and in solo Queue because he has never had to go up against any of his real counters the past few months. With the reintroduction of ![Yorick](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.11.1/img/champion/Yorick.png) I believe there's a chance to fill that void finally, and because the player finally has some control over Yorick's maiden, it might go so far as to let him see professional play, allowing him to hold power over Urgot in that field as well. Of course I could be completely wrong and maybe I'm overhyping the potential Yorick has to keep Urgot in check. Maybe he'll just go back to being a meme in a couple weeks for whatever reason. But even if I'm wrong, the big question I have for Riot is this: **Why double down on nerfing a champion when the nerfs you've already introduced to him are yielding promising results?** Do you seriously believe one patch is long enough to wait and say 'nah, he needs more nerfs' when you've simultaneously buffed one of his strongest counters as well, with VFX updates on the way to encourage playability of another one? At the very least, I implore Riot to table the nerfs of 9.4, whatever they may wind up being, for at least another patch or two to better grasp the effect of Yorick's buffs on the meta, as well as the VFX update for Wukong to see if that increases his play rate at all. Anyways, that's all I have to say about our Crab People Overlord, if anyone has anything to add or disagree with, I welcome anyone to the discussion.

tl;dr: Urgot's winrate is already starting to decline at a healthy rate, Yorick shits on him and is starting to see more play, MonkeyKing has vfx on the way which will make him see more play, and all of this needs to be further observed before introducing more nerfs

How is Urgot weak to Wukong? You can just build armor and he won't be able to touch you as he's only really effective with lethality, whilst your base damage is high enough to still be a kill threat to Wukong.

The reason he's getting nerfs is likely a preemptive nerf with the Conqueror changes that are going through. Urgot benefits fairly heavily from them.

Urgot has been broken as shit for over half a year, he absolutely need those nerfs.
