Feeling overwhelmed by the meta. Any tips for this noob trying to climb plat?

Hello! I'm currently plat 4 (Mid / Support main) and games recently just all feel the same...There's only like a handful of champs that are seen nearly every game... Top: Mordekaiser & Kled Jungle: Kayn & Jarven Mid: Yasuo & Vladamir Adc: Sivir & Ezreal Support: Pyke, Nautilus, & Thresh

I personally ban out pyke due to not wanting bot to lose to him. He's oppressive when ahead. There's over 100 champs in the game...yet only those few handfuls have such HUGE impact on games. Plat feels like more of a "Play what's good" elo rather than pick good team comps. I know there's one tricks that push off meta champs to extremely high elo, but not all of us can be that good lol Idk, maybe i'm just bad, but the meta sure doesn't favor many playstyles other than "build damage and outplay your opponents".

Been noticing this a lot as well. Especially in mid silver rank, you have to play rock paper scissors about who to ban. If I ban Pyke, they can pick Yasuo. If I ban Yasuo, there might be a Morde. As an ADC it gets pretty overwhelming seeing all this combination of mobility, damage, and cc that you can hardly counter.

I'd like to see a Jayce or something different every now and then.

Idk how things are in plat, but people in high gold can't play Ezreal, so I usually ban him just to prevent my ADC from potentially picking him, unless they're hovering him.

I've felt like this a lot lately in high Gold.

I ban Pyke always. I'm a support main and he's just so slippery.

But there's so many champions I wish I could see banned every single game. I'm tired of Yasuo, Yuumi, Kayn, Jarvan, Mordekaiser, and Nautilus to name just a few. But I know I'm going to have at least one of them in my match, if not more.

It's such a bummer, and people still force bad picks well into Gold.

I got people playing things like Ryze, Akali, Gnar, and Nidalee top into these things and then feeding them, making the problem so much worse.

I applaud them trying to switch it up, but in this meta it doesn't matter what kind of experience you have with the champion unless you're significantly better than your opponent because there's so much mobility and safety in their kits. Your room for error is basically nonexistent, so unless you're a smurf, it doesn't really work out that often.

I'm tired of seeing the same champions, and yet Riot keeps creating new ones instead of addressing the reason why so many people are clinging to like 10% of the roster. I mean to me, it's crazy that Ezreal is in 1/3 of our games, but I guess it doesn't matter much to them that we have almost no pick diversity.

This is my first season trying to climb though, so maybe that's why I'm super frustrated. I usually just get to Gold for rewards.

Taking a week (or more) off might be good. At some point everyone gets to a point where they’re just playing on autopilot and the break will help you freshen up and feel better and more in control when you’re back. Every time I’ve taken such a break I’ve found myself playing better than prior.

But unfortunately you’re not wrong about the meta. A decent tactic is to pick a champion who is impactful while behind but strong while ahead.

Anyway, gameplay advice aside, once you near the elo you are playing at skill-wise, the amount of games it takes to climb becomes way way higher. Let’s say in gold you won 1 out of 5 games purely due to your own skill and 2/5 for other reasons (of course no game is purely due to skill and whatnot, this is for mathematical representation), in 5 games you’ll progress 1 win worth of lp. However as you are playing with better and better players, less of the wins become attributable to your skill. Let’s say 1 in 20 are now attributable to your skill and 10 in 20 are due to your team. Now to progress 1 win’s worth of LP you’ll need to win 10 games (for mathematical representation, as you’re winning 5.5 times and losing 4.5 times on average within 10 games).

You can see how the higher you climb the worse it will get. Hence my advice is to take a break, then come back with the intention to get better. Watch some streamers on your favorite champions. But at least for some time taking a full on break from league should definitely help.

One trick talon. You play off their mistakes which is pretty easy in plat or below.
