What I Think About Nocturne
So, with the Nocturne change I've been noticing a lot more attention to this guy. I have about 200k points on him, he was the first champion that I bought and his entire concept is what got me to read about League and start playing it in the first place.
So, onto the main points.
-Nocturne is a great jungler-assassin. He's capable of ganking pre-6 with his powerful fear even in early levels, and when he does hit 6, his ganks are very potent. While they're not on the level of Nautilus and Warwick potent, it still gets the job done.
-Despite being an assassin, Nocturne has a decent amount of utility in his kit, with his fear, his vision denial, and his spellshield. This is what makes him a great duelist.
-He has some of the highest base values in the game, and he scales quite well. His Q gives him a large AD steroid while on the trail it makes, again enforcing his early-mid game power.
-However, despite scaling well, late-game he becomes much less effective since most carries have some form of defensive item, and get peeled for in teamfights.
-He doesn't work very well with on-hit builds. The only AA steroid he has is his passive, and it's on a 10 second cooldown, getting reduced with each auto attack. Other than that, he is quite ability based.
What I think Nocturne needs right now:
-Some form of escape; he doesn't quite have the 100-0 burst of Rengar or Talon, where they go balls-deep and their only escape is kill or be killed. I put emphasis on quite because, if fed enough, he can oneshot somebody, but it becomes really inconsistent at times.
-A different passive. While his passive is nice for the extra sustain and AoE in the jungle and even in lane, it becomes really obsolete when mid-late game rolls around. I feel that a passive that interacts with vision could work really well early game for ganks, and late game because of his vision denial from his ultimate.
-His Q is nice, but it could use some changes. Maybe make it more like a Zed Q, a bit more spammable, but make it less high-impact (Smaller trail, less damage, less stat-boosts from trail)
What DOESN'T need to be changed:
-His ultimate. People might complain about it (Suprisingly) but it's what makes Nocturne, Nocturne. If a QoL change could be made to it, then I'm all for it, but there shouldn't be drastic changes to it.
-His fear. While it's an odd skill, it's rather unique. I can't think of any champions off the top of my head that use a "tether" to enable a skill. It's also very fair with clear counterplay.
-His spellshield. Most diving fighters have some sort of defense steroid, and this is also good; it takes skill to use correctly, and is interactive.
Anyways, that's my thoughts on Nocturne at the moment, from a Nocturne main. TL;DR read it all!
