Question about range calculation

I had a game recently which made me question how League calculates the range as the range of abilities seem to be measured diffrently than the range of auto attacks.

Being the datamining guy I am I tend to look around fansites, wikis and whatnot and memorize diffrent statistics about champions, so I generally can tell which champion has a higher AA range and so on. Imagine my suprise when I found out that a Vayne outranges a Vladimir Transfusion.

If you're wondering why it's weird then I'll have you know that a Vayne Autoattack range is 550 while Vladimir Q - Transfusion has a 600 range. How is the range calculated that the 600 range is not even matched by a 550 range champion but OUTRANGED by it?

Autoattacks and skillshot are measured from the edge of the champion circle to the edge of the target's. Targeted spells are measured from center to center. Circles generally have about 50 radius, so it adds about 100 range to the effective range. For champions who have circles that grow significantly, the implications are that they have larger auto range, and can soak up skillshots for teams more easily. One example would be if there was an ADC who could grow in size like Cho or Zac. IF they had a targeted spell of 650 range and an AA range of 500, increasing their size by 50 radius through their own spell and through Lulu's ult would have the humorous situation that they can suddenly AA a target that they can't hit with their spell yet despite being able to hit them with a spell but not attack them 5 seconds ago.
