So riot..does the amount of Anti-Autofill threads alarm you?

ZED G0D··77 votes·3,445 views

Or do you just not care that you implemented a system, that is hypocritical to a system you originally put in?

>NOW YOU CAN CHOOSE 2 ROLES AND YOU'RE GUARANTEED TO GET THEM! >NOW YOU MUST AUTOFILL A ROLE BECAUSE DONT YA WANNA JOIN FASTER?!

The amount of anti-plant threads didn't bother them. The amount of anti dynamic queue threads didn't bother them.

It's something called negativity bias, and here's how it works. On a forum, especially a forum like Gameplay, people only feel the need to start discussions if they have something to say, and if they think that something will start a conversation.

There is very little reason to start a thread saying "hey I love the game!" But when those threads do get started (Thank you Supports, Can we acknowledge they killed tank Ekko, etc) those threads get many upvotes as well.

The negativity in the community gets more visibility because you have no incentive to show appreciation for what you like. Your incentive for showing disapproval is that maybe it will affect some kind of change. Because of this, the motivations for expressing positive and negative emotions on a forum are completely imbalanced and you would naturally expect to see significantly more negative threads than positive ines (which we do. All the time. For years)

Your right but I feel like they should say something at least. its not like autofill in every queue wasn't a big change.

Riot has done everything they can to make the support role more attractive. But they still have issues filling queues. The best solution to this is to force people who have never supported to just try it for once through autofill and hopefully when the game remove autofill the population of players who want to support will have gone up. It's actually a brilliant strategy.

I mean if ya'll just queued as supports once in a while. We wouldn't need autofill.

It takes a certain kind of person to want to basically be a slave all game.

Also, climbing as support is significantly more difficult than a role which can carry.

I think Riot needs to overhaul the entire support concept, image, and meta in a way that makes it desirable.

Not just force people to play a role that isn't fun.

alot of minconception about the support role from bad support players. A good support is pretty much like a good jungler. They will roam to each lane and snowball it. if you are the type that holds you are ADC hand all game 24/7 then you are doing it wrong.

Chamuel857 votes

Whenever I leave my adc alone in lane for a while in laning phase, he seems to die and whines about me leaving him alone.

It Hertz When IP5 votes

This. Mostly because roaming as support works best if the other support is roaming as well, otherwise your ADC is 1v2 and in Bronze-Silver ADCs don't seem to be able to just freeze lane and farm. Especially with all the poke/damage supports.

Considering that I only really want to queue as Support primary, Mid secondary based on the day. I find issue with this comment. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

Chamuel856 votes

I mean there are support mains, but I find the people complaining about auto fill are not support mains. Support mains are not the intended recipient of my comment.

MissMikasa6 votes

Well in ranked I'm a support main, as it's my best role and I do everything I can to help my team win and to save my teammates. The reason I don't like autofill in ranked is what if I want my support role, and get placed somewhere else? That considerably ruins our chances of winning unless the guy supporting is actually good.

In normals though I do hate it as I like to play other roles to practice and bam I get support instead -.-

(this is my smurf I just realized I had signed into)

Chamuel851 votes

Does that happen? I figured that queueing as support would never get auto filled since it is always so high demand.

It Hertz When IP3 votes

It happens.

G4LLOWSC4L1BR4TR1 votes

If you play support you get protected from autofill, so as long as you're consistently playing support it's literally impossible to get autofilled out of one of your two selected positions.

MissMikasa2 votes

Well it happened once. Hasn't happened again though. I just played a ranked match where I got my secondary ADC, and ended up losing the game. I probably would've won and gotten to my promos if I had gotten support but instead I had a Bard supporting me, which I hate most Bard players. That and the fact that the enemy was just way more tanky than us and we didn't have much peel so we lost.

We don't need autofill gold and below. I fact, autofill tripped the time it takes to get in game.

It also made the game itself even more execrutating when your team has the autofill jungle and support.

it is basically like the old system now.

in the old system, you have 20% chance of getting lastpick, but you don't always get support because chances are someone else might be a support main or your team has a duo bot.

now autofill is un-negotiateable, you get autofilled, you get support.

Blackstone014 votes

Unless you selected support, in which case you get mid.

it is basically like the old system now.

Except people are mostly unwilling to negotiate now. They were willing in the old system.

Supreme Senpai697 votes

I've always found them annoying but today my friend queue'd ADC/top and got auto filled jungle. I was a bit sad because we were a duo bot lane. He mentioned this and the ADC was kind enough to trade for jungle.

Which was the role he queued for, according to him. Like.... what.

Eedat4 votes

The amount of anti-autofill threads is massively dwarfed by the amount of anti-dynamicQ threads last year. We have 3 main queues now, so autofill is a necessity. Getting support 1 out of 10 games really isn't that bad. Seriously.

18 NAKED COWB0YS11 votes

i get it 7/10 games as a top main in diamond 3 elo.

dont make numbers like that

Kartagia1 votes

Then you should learn to play support. I know it is hazardous due Adelaine Skyahrt case proving support can be banned just due reports without investigation. No Riot person involved.

If you cannot play support, you cannot play any role: Support play requires skills all roles benefit: minimap use, tactical awareness, team work, and warding.

18 NAKED COWB0YS11 votes

there is no "learning support"

i already know how to play that shit.

do i wanna play it? NO

Eedat3 votes

That's not true lol. We can look at your match history. Out of your last 20 ranked games, you played support twice. So it exactly what I said. One out of ten

18 NAKED COWB0YS8 votes

im on a smurf on LAN

besides everytime i do get support on this acc i either ask for another lane or dodge.

GiveMeUrMilk3 votes

And that right there is the whole reason autofill exists. People don't want to play support. So until Riot finds a way to make support a more appealing position, autofill is here to stay unfortunately.

Spaceman5pff1 votes

As far as I can tell, we are at the part where the Vocal Minority are still crying and assuming they are the entire playerbase.

1011001110003 votes

The biggest, most legitimate problem I find people having with auto-fill is that it just flat out isn't even working as intended. We have a significant number of reported incidents where two or more people get auto-filled into each others' primary roles for no good reason. And it happens constantly.

I feel like auto-fill would be not as complained about if it actually just auto-filled you into the only unavailable position after going WAY past your expected queue time, because I don't like being auto-filled as ADC when we already had someone else that queued primary ADC and then got auto-filled into my support primary.

Auto-fill should also just be optional, for the people who actively refuse to play anything but their two chosen roles, but that's something else entirely.

Dengeden1 votes

The biggest, most legitimate problem is an irrelevant one that can be easily fixed by opening your bloody mouth in champ select?

We're set then, autofill is good.

1011001110001 votes

So basically autofill is irrelevant.

Thanks.

Dengeden1 votes

No. It reduces queue times. It would be irrelevant if everyone queued up as "fill".

Kapiche?

1011001110001 votes

Over in Diamond land sure, but anyone gold and under doesn't need their queue times to be cut for only a minute. Higher ELO autofill made sense, since the playerbase sometimes hit queue times over an hour. But mandatory autofill? In Bronze and in Normals? Seriously?

Dengeden1 votes

You see that actually looks like a fair point. Why not mention it to begin with?

1011001110001 votes

Except that is part of the point. Why make mandatory auto-fill if it doesn't even work? The issue of being cross-autofilled into each others' roles unknowingly is an issue that affects all elos, and that is brought in part by the fact that autofill is mandatory EVERYWHERE now.

The change to mandatory autofill everywhere was completely unnecessary to begin with. Autofill as a system already had its place in high elo where queue time > game time. Low elo never needed it, so WHY push it on?

Dengeden1 votes

There's a new thread on bottlenecking, turns out it's only an intuitive point.

Because it does work, only not a 100% of the time ... and the times that it doesn't are irrelevant.

The issue with autofill is that when you calculate in dodges and such the queue time to get into a match often remains about 20 to 35 minutes anyhow. Which is exactly the length of a short game of SR, where the support role would have been occupied by a player that plays support instead. This bottleneck logic fails when it takes into account dodges and poor performance games, the way autofill forces things makes the gameplay experience poor for everyone (including the enemy team, stomps are less fun than equally matched games where it could have gone either way).

Dengeden1 votes

The basics of every role can be learned by anyone. The quality of games won't go down that much.

Quite frankly, I'm not sure how many people would be willing to accept the thankfully, very severe dodge penalties when they don't get their role.

The quality of a game goes down massively when playing with someone only familiar with a role versus someone who is quite practiced in a role. I am a top main, though for the first 3 seasons I mained Support on one account and took it to platinum or higher each time. However now support plays differently, builds differently, and is quite a different experience than it was back then. There is also more pressure on bot due to Dragon changes and the like. I may be okay as a support now days, but that doesn't mean I am good at it, and in fact will end up increasing the likelihood my team will lose as compared to if I play my main role.

Your experience may be slightly different from mine own regarding the quality of a game, but overall most players will recognize a difference on a massive scale. Autofill decreases game quality and does not improve the time of a queue in silver, gold, or platinum at all. Once in Diamond that may be different, where there are much fewer players availble.

Dengeden1 votes

Saying it's the case for plat but not diamond is just arbitrary. I mean obviously, you'll see the difference in ranked. You notice every missed CS and every miscalculated trade or rotation in ranked.

Of course it's harder but playing safely and firsthand knowledge of the other roles is important.

That awkward moment when everyone else is saying "just learn support" when I actually get autofilled into top, my worst lane.
