Illaoi Q hitbox is freaking massive, and does not mimic her animation

ZED G0D··138 votes·8,714 views

Post Q impact, Illaoi will form an outline of her attack direction (much like sions Q) However I have been a good number of unts away from her Q and still got the damage from it. Its hit box is massive and does not at all mimic her Animation, rito pls :) I know she is new, I would just like to point this out

Illaoi's Q definitely has a case of the old Lux lucent singularity where the hit-particle shown does not match the actual width of the skill. Has to be a small bug that they can/should fix easily.

twf lucent singularity is still like this

Reminds me of the old nidalee spear. And then I remember how long it took for them to finally decide to shrink the hitbox width.

I have no hope :'(

Or the truck that is Morgana's q. At least the particle matches it now

HopFrogger13 votes

I noticed this today, too! Was playing against her as Gangplank, and was repeatedly surprised that I got hit by her Q, when I was clearly out of her animation. Pretty obnoxious.

I think the actual hitbox is fine as it is right now, but the visual indicator definitely needs to be changed to let people more reliably dodge tentacles. I don't see why this keeps happening with AoE indicators like this, if 3rd party scripts can show hitboxes perfectly then riot should surely be able to manage it.

DeathToEcchi1 votes

this ^^^^

I know the real hitbox is bigger, so can lane fine against her. Playing as her, I constantly see people dodging what they see as the minimum and still taking hits.

ModWulf Helhammer7 votes

Yeah, noticed this yesterday. I would move out of the way from the tentacles spawning from the vessel debuff, I would somehow still get hit by them

MeleeNuke6 votes

Am I the only one who finds it easy to dodge? Even without any mobility moves you can just bait it out or move out of the way.

Jolly Rogered23 votes

It is easy to dodge. There are certain areas where it will still hit you even though you were not inside the hit-box though.

KaisadiIIa1 votes

Of course it's easy to dodge! The problem is not that, but instead that you may be completely outside the "image" that marks the affected area and still you get damaged. In some edge cases when you need to be close (but don't want to be hit) [for example, when chasing her], it's misleading and frustrating. Also we all hate dying to something that visually did not hit us.

ploki1222 votes

My first problem with it is that the displayed hitbox is so much wider than the actual tentacle.

But the biggest issue is that the actualy hitbox is even bigger than the one shown taht is already bigger than the tentacle.

Midder Scray5 votes

I don't think it's just her Q either, it's all of her tentacles. When I get E'd and a tentacle attacks me, it seems like they have the same hitbox as her Q

Vellich0r4 votes

It's awful 0.0

AHeroNamedHawke4 votes

Getting hit by an ability 200 units out of its range just means you got outplayed, duh

Naut3 votes

There are a lot of spells like that. Ashe's ult and Kennen's Q are prime offenders. I don't think Riot understands that most people don't care that it's that big, but instead care that's it's not clear whether it will hit or not. There definitely need to be some quality of life tweaks that go out to animations or hitboxes to make them both match.

Anivia's Q animation doesn't even remotely match her hitbox on some skins. sometimes people will be in the middle of my Q and it won't do jack shit.

The explosion is slightly larger than the ball itself.

If you aren't double proccing Q you aren't Anivia. It's the rite of passage man

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

But... Wait... What? We a catch 22 here. Nobody panic!

You have to Anivia to learn her. You have to practice to double-proc her Q. You have to double-proc her Q to Anivia. So in other words, nobody can Anivia. ;p

Except if you get permission from the bird god itself - Froggen

Hollandiae1 votes

You can double proc her Q????

No wonder I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in ARAM.

My Waifu Vanilla2 votes

Let it pass through and then blow it up for double damage.

Jolly Rogered2 votes

THIS. There have been many times where I clearly was not inside of her hit box, yet I still get smacked by her Q. It almost seems like it's splash dmg or something.

Durzaka2 votes

Ok, people here have serious confirmation bias, with literally no support.

Look at this shit, and tell me if you think the hitbox still doesnt match the Animation.

If her Q indicator doesnt match her hitbox, it is by an insignificant amount (MAYBE 20 units, and that is pushing it.

Sneak Dog1 votes

That looks like it should hit. The edge of the tentacle indicator is touching the edge of the gromp hitbox.

Durzaka1 votes

The screenshots were taken from the exact same angle.

The indicator right on the edge of the monster (monster just outside) to see if it would hit beyond the indicator.

It absolutely does not.

Sneak Dog1 votes

That's the krug hitbox.

Durzaka1 votes

Are you implying that krugs have broken hitboxes then? Because that is another issue entirely.

But for your piece of mind:

http://imgur.com/a/79guG

Still edge of the hitbox. STILL doesnt hit him.

You people are just begging for something to complain about Illaoi that youre making it up now. Her Q animation and indicator very clearly match the hitbox that deals damage. Any amount of testing would show this, instead of instantly assuming it is true and complaining about it.

ZED G0D1 votes

Its more of that we experience this, and we're complaining about it.

Baron of Bread1 votes

Tentacles also deal their damage before they look like they should.

DeathToEcchi1 votes

not if you get cc'ed or die.

The Ellimiist1 votes

Yeah really I don't care if it's that wide but at least make the damn particle effect match or vice-versa.

dEAdbUs1 votes

Same with Xerath Q and Jinx pistol, and Thresh hook (there were screenshots on boards from Worlds when Faker was hooked). But Riot mentioned before that was made for better feeling of skill's users.

3TWarrior1 votes

or as a silent buff to thresh's "Forty X percent" winrate XD

Illiad1 votes

Are you asking it to have a winding tentacle design to the hit box? instead of a box?

Supreme Senpai691 votes

no just a larger box so it's actually accurate

kaltenashes1 votes

wut? do you think they'll ever fix Nautilus anchor grab? (i think its his Q) the range indicator is smaller than the range it actually goes

3TWarrior1 votes

almost all abilities have a slightly smaller range indicator than how far they actually go but for some it's very obvious how far they go (xerath Q, lux's R (since it tends to be a hover and snipe ability)

abilities like nidalee's Q and twisted's Q go many units farther and sometimes the particle persists longer than the damage range

ParaBellam1 votes

It's a tiny bit wider and longer than the box on the ground for all her tentacles.

That being said, I've already mentally adjusted to know that the hitbox is bigger than the shown one, so it's not as big of an issue.

Sneak Dog1 votes

First: Remember it's edge to edge. Edge of champion to edge of ability. Second: Could you get some screenshots showing the issue? It'd help me understand the gravity of the problem to see it in action.

From his post, it seems like that should hit indeed. The edge of the tentacle indicator is touching the edge of the gromp hitbox.

What do you mean mimic the animation? The animation and time of hit are just fine. I've been playing her since PBE and I have pretty much played her non stop besides a few Maokai games. Her hitboxes are fine on ALL of her abilities, the indicators that show where the tentacles will hit your champion is just fine. Even if their big toe is in that indicator it counts as a hit because you haven't fully left the area where the damage will be applied to. You also have to remember that its not a projectile so there really isn't much to do considering that. The fact of the matter is that shes perfectly fine, she really doesn't need any changes.

Now to the next part so I can get it out of the way.

Illaoi is in no way shape and or form overpowered by any extent. She's a juggernaut. One of the only reasons people think she is overpowered is because they don't know how to play against her, she's a lane bully, and yes I do understand that it may be quite difficult to farm against her, again shes a lane bully. The best you can do is farm under turret to the best of your ability and try to do some damage and possibly farm after a gank. We also have to compensate that some players of league have slower reaction times or just don't know that you can simply avoid Q damage by either walking left, right, up, or down depending on where the tentacle is placed and what your positioning is. Yes she does some good damage, but if you pay attention that large amount of damage is present mainly during early to mid game, once the beginning of late game is reached she begins to fall off, no matter how she is built item wise. Late game she is mainly a tank that goes in with her team and tanks damage meanwhile dealing enough damage to help the team win a team fight.

"But what about her E! That's so broken too!"

Her E actually seems to go a SHORTER length than indicated by the game, and that hit box isn't to bad. Again, when you turn into a vessel and begin spawning tentacles, KEEP MOVING, DO NOT STOP, once the tentacle swings, take it out as you only have to kill 3 tentacles for the E to wear off of you. Once this is done continue doing what you need to do to stay alive.

Now onto the last part, the ultimate. Illaoi's ultimate is yes very powerful in the sense that she can deal a lot of damage in a quicker amount of time due to the W cool down and the faster tentacle swing speed. Again, best thing to do if she uses her ultimate in the middle of a team fight is to IMMEDIATELY back away from her and her tentacles and resume fighting, most of the time by this point she will be low on mana and wont be able to do much for a period of time.

No one said she was OP in this thread so you are getting defensive for NO reason at all, nor has anyone mentioned any other ability in her kit. The problem is is that she suffers from the same problems Xerath, Jinx, Sion, etc. suffer from and that the area on the ground where it says you are going to get hit does not COMPLETELY match the actual area that is going to get hit. They are probably 95% accurate representations but has a very "that wasn't fair at all" feeling to it when you are outside of the box visually but still get hit since you were in that like 5% mismatch area. Her kit is fine and she is balanced imh, but her Q indicator needs some clarity to it still imo.

I see what your saying, I was just posting all of that before someone else decided to bring it up and start a huge flame war, so can i get a chocolate chip cookie for getting that out of the way? :D

It is an easy ability to dodge but also the animation does not match the actual hitbox.

If only riot would nerf their champions before releasing them to the public. Isnt that what the PBE is for?
