For Galio: What about exponentially decaying ratios?

Riot apparently wants Galio building just a few AP items and then building quite tanky. Here's the problem with that idea as a whole. If his ratios are good, he goes AP. If his ratios are bad, he builds tank. Not a lot of inbetween room to work with here. So my friend and I had an idea: What if each point of AP SLIGHTLY decreased his ratio up to a cap. (Say, as low as 20%) That way SOME AP works for a high AP ratio (say, starting at 100%) but then each point of AP gives less and less gains to this damage. These numbers are just ballpark figures, but you get the idea.

Would that finally allow him to build 1-2 AP items into tank? Or does this just not sound feasible to balance around? Would something else just work better?

All that is needed is to put a cap on the damage scaling based off ap. If you look at renekton q, his healing from it has a max no matter how much ad you build; at some point the extra ad doesn't buff his q healing. They could easily do something similar with galio. No complicated reduced benefit/scaling as you add more ap; just put a max cap.

that seems almost counter-intuitive. I don't hate your idea, I just don't think it would work in that regard. I'd say they should just slightly lower his ap scaling and improve his mr scaling.
