Discussion: Is Death becoming the ultimate form of CC?
Alright so, not going into the Veigar argument, but something that became apparently in a game with a Katarina in it. This is a bit slow to explain but I'm going to go through my train of thought and bring up my topic of discussion. And as a add on, this is not meant to be an argument or a bash riot but a discussion on the scenario and proposals for solutions if you think it is a growing problem.
If riot removes all instant stuns and with how tanks are still viable only on select characters.
How do you deal with Katarina? I mean, it feels like Katarina is going to require a small group of twenty or less characters with fast stuns, but even then can snowball fairly hard even if you can interrupt the ultimate, and its not like you can dodge shunpo or any of her abilities.
Before anyone starts about it, I'm not talking about laning against her. No, I don't want to hear, "don't let her get fed". And if anyone tells me to rush banshees or some silliness that puts me so far behind in every sense I need to be.
I usually play support, and thus I have very little control over midlane except to do my best not to let her roam and get kills. My experience with her is that one or two kills often translates far too hard to ignore her. So as a support the only options it feels like are Leona Sona now. Thresh has delays except on flay which sort of works.
With how inconsistent or "slow" most ccs are, it started to occur to me that it feels like cc has more counter play then damage. For example, Zed ult, Leblanc combo(except chains, which ironically are her cc), Veigar ult, Katarina combo(excluding ult which requires select characters to deal with), auto attacks in general, Fizz combo(which at least has a higher demand on his ult now), cass now is a e spamming robot(though again, at least you have to land a poison for this, but in comparison to landing her stun?).
For the stun comparison, I am going to compare it to more modern cc, or ones released recently. Zilean stun, requires two delayed skill shots, Braum ult, giant windup long enough fiddleult goes through on a reaction braum ult along with braum stun which requires a minimum of 4 hits which can take anywhere from half a second(all 4 people hitting one target) or 4(one person at slowest attack speed), Kallista knockback/knockup(wind up, delay and travel time), Veigar stun(no need to repeat everyone is probably aware of this), skarner stun(same as braum but focused on skarner alone, so several second delays, or his ult which is more legacy then modern, but requires point blank with no dashes), Soraka bind(the silence is instant but the bind is delayed significantly so this is a bit half and half), Reksai knockup(A bit easier then others I would say but requires you to be under them so flash tunnel is an option, but still has a fairly significant tell), Azir knockup(requires significant setup, an all in, and a mediocre travel time if I remember the speed right).
On record for Azir, I do realize his ult bypasses this question, and I usually wouldn't say it is straight up CC except that you can't go through it, but its also a damage tool last I was aware.
From the design angle I gather from riot, they want all hard cc to be skill shots or delayed. But what about the large amount of damage options that are easier to land along with safer. For example, Azir's soldier dash vs his knockup. Multiple soldiers can be used for damage simultaniously where as the knockup is a single shot and requires an all in. I know this is meant to be an escape but its a good example of what I mean.
Is it becoming easier to kill someone then to stun someone is I guess the question I have where you buy mercurials for Zed but its too much to expect buying Mercurials for Veigar's stun or other forms of cc?
