AP Galio thoughts
Regarding reworked Galio
I'm really enjoying Galio, personally as of late. He's a great addition to team play. Although i'm still learning him thoroughly. From my experience over time I've drawn the conclusion he works well with melee. A good mid, fun top laner and a pokey support. He has a global presence later into the game that actually saves allies in a way that isn't a shield or heal. He is an Anti Mage due to his tankiness and self shield. Has nice poke capbalities and CC.
He feels good on AP as I don't prefer full tank. With either a ludens rush or morellos. I tend to opt into Ice born Gauntlet for the armor and slow opposed to zhonyas, especially since he quotes it when bought. But also he adds some extra kiting to his gameplay and peel, when I know lichbane would be better since I'm AP. But its not always about damage I may opt into abyssal mask(rarely) since It affects his damage reduction which is mainly used on tank galio in the pro scene. I tend to run DFT(with liandrys & potion) for a health shred not as strong as say Brand but still decent. Also run, situationally, a few utility Cunning masteries or run a few resolve masteries for either summoner CDR or the fearless mastery as it is quite fun on him when trading in particular match ups.
He has his faults. Reminds me of a melee Vlad without the healing and the fact galio is all skill shots. Only in the sense that he is a tanky mage. My issues with galio stem from being a highly mobile champion player(Ahri, Leblanc, Zed) what I enjoy about galio is he is uniquely different in the idea that he has team support capabilities that those 3 do not possess.
Seggustions include E mobility improvements and a possible self ult?
First is his E, can the ability please be able to traverse over terrain? For better mobility. Also the ability is lackluster in terms of escape. Again coming from slippery champions he is lackluster. One possibility to improve his E would be his E now knocks up the first target hit, but instead of ending at the first struck target, he finishes his dash distance. But doesn't deal damage or CC past the first champion struck.
His R, could be disregarded if, E was given a quality of life improvement like the ideas seggusted.
But his R, I'm feeling the ult Nerf because of pro play. I was running little to no CDR on him, so now I feel like I kinda need to otp into some, because his ult its so long. especially when its something cool that feels good when used and it saves allies. I feel like my ult is always 10-15 secs on CD even after a huge fight breaks out. so I've defeninently been more jugdemental as when to use it per say, seems like I can't save every ally now. So I've been saving it for a huge fight. but I miss the ability to use it just to save allies individually, I can do so but with the cool down it has now I miss the opportunity to do so again. Its not just the cool down change, but he can't ult! He needs something here. A possible self ult perhaps? So he can 1v1 more efficiently, especially to deal with out numbered situations or AD! The ult should should be defensive like he increases his own magic resist and armor for a short period of time and heals off the damage Dealt(which benefits AP galio.) I'm sure there are better ideas.
Just my take on Galio, coming from mobile champions he definitely isn't something I would pick up, but he has awesome team fighting capabilities and unique support utility, feels good to play something fresh. Just maybe his E and or R could be looked at please?
